Heavy stones

This thread is basicly a market reserch so if i should not be writing this thread i appologise.
How many of you would switch from normal leads to something that looks identical to a stone but with the same weight for size as a normal lead. ie. a 2oz stone but only the same size as a 2oz lead. The problem with the stones on the market at the moment is there light for there size.
Is there a market out there?

It's got my vote, subject to cost of course !!! ...some of the tackle companies are taking the micky I feel, with prices that are asked for....

i,ve just had a chip away at one and it appears to be a very fine gravel thats glued onto the lead,(a decent amount aswell) i,ve had them a couple of seasons and none have come away fom the usage they,ve had, far better quality than some of the cheaper plastic coated ones out there.
cheers

Hi gra
Davis tackle in christchurch have a very good selection of stonze weights from 1oz to 3oz inline or with a swivel..you can buy them online gra..

The ones you mention Craig are they real stones, the aim of my post was to see if theres a demand for something like a stone but as heavy as lead for the size. Andrew do they drill OK with a masonry drill

These are a selection of my stone weights. Left to right they are 1 1/8 oz, 1 3/8 oz, 2 1/8 oz, 3 3/4 oz. As to size the 1 3/8 oz weight is approx 5x3x1.5cm.

Craig, yes there might be something in the pipe line, just wanted to know if there is a need for artificial stones that weigh heavier than natural ones.

You may want to check with your patent lawyer first before spending any money on development that they do not infringe the patents that Pallatrax hold for stones as fishing weights! especially if you are looking at selling them! ;)

"Welcome to the Pallatrax website - innovators of the revolutionary Stonze™ System (European Patents Granted, Chinese Patent Granted and USA Patent Pending)..."

Patents are expensive to get and strictly upheld and protected due to the cost of getting them .... not getting arsey, just trying to save you some dosh in development :)

As for Stonze weighing light for their size compared to dense lead weights, not a problem, does not matter how big the stonze is... they are just a stone.. size is immaterial...

I do not like the shop stone weights as most of them seem to be too rounded and uniform in shape, and not much like the gravel on the river bed.
I make my own from a selection of different shape and size stones with small holes. A swivel is then Araldited in to the hole.

I do agree with Graham that natural stones are too light for their size, and a metal weight that looked like a stone, not something that looked as if it had been dipped in sand, would be useful.

I drill the stones with a diamond bit in a water-cooled air driven turbine that achieves about 250,000 rpm. It makes pretty short work of any pebble. If you don't have that particular advantage then I would suggest a Dremel type hand held drill with a small diamond bit (ask your dentist). Water cooling is essential so hold it under the tap.
