Heavy/Floodwater Barbel Rod

Just looking for some advice on heavy/floodwater rod.

It would be handy to pick your brains on the above and save me some shoe leather, the opportunity to pick up barbel rods in a tackle shop in Oxfordshire is limited it is all carp, carp and more carp!

I need a rod than cast out up to 6oz, my heaviest Barbel rod a JW Young barbel just won't deal with that sort of weight nor will I try.

As you can tell I don't spend a fortune on rods as I spend most of my time working at the moment, so it will get very occasional use.

Otherwise I could look at some cheaper alternatives such as an older specimen/carp rod in the 2.25/2.5 ranges?

Budget max £100.00 or a good heavy twin tip that I could use over the summer/winter and flog one of my rods off say max £150.00.

I fish the Thames and Wye when I can.

Any advice would be handy, cheers in advance.

Fox Warrior S Barbel 12ft 2.25lb

Have a look at these. Pick them up for around £65 had a look at one in a tackle shop seemed ok for the price

Hi Adam,
I live in Oxford and most of my winter fishing is around the Thames in Oxfordshire and Berks, plus a few trips to the Severn, Wye and Wark Avon. I use a 12ft Harrison Flood rod no idea what test curve it is as Harrisons do not state one. It will cast 8oz and has a really soft tip but lots of power in the butt. Phone Harrisons direct and you may get a better price, if not try a wychwood big river barbel rod or a fox version of the same. If you go to States tackle in Witney i am sure they will help you.

Just bought the fox 15ft extreme barbel fantasic rods and highly recommended by the chaps on here £100.00 new at climax fishing tackle (if they've still got them)
Regards

Cheers Matthew £65 don't mind "Ok" for the price it is
Cheers Wayne me with 15' I think I would end up losing 3' the way I fish and walk about.

Paul they are just around the corner, everytime I go in to states I always ask for what I want and they never seem to have it, I hate been offered 2nd best, I will pop in and see what they have. Cheers

any more suggestions would be handy

What about the Daiwa Whisker, Twilight and Thesus 2.25 TC I guess not much apart from a new sticker?

The fox floodwater looks interesting

you might be able to pick up a 2nd hand peregrine flood rod for £100.Although i doubt it will be a mark 1,as these are generally seen as superior to the very capable mk11.

Hi Adam,

Fox do a 12' duo-lite floodwater for the same price as the 15' from climax
