Heavy Barbel rods

It's all about personal choice. As Paul has said it's nice using an expensive rod. But is it really necessary? For fishing the TT I should imagine some people require a 2.75 for hitting the far bank. But why? The fish are mostly 2-10 rod lengths out if you choose the right swims. My biggest TT barbel was caught on a 1.75 TC rod.
I use a 2.75lb rod for TT now I was using lighter TC rods!

but found often I would need 5 to 8ozs and so bought a pair of Diawa Powermesh 2.75 these rods are amazing the action is superb so much so they are as happy with 6ozs weights and a hard fighting double as they are with a 3ozs weight and a 6lb fish I know use them all the time for that very reason

I remember first time out on the TT Gerry, you had those Fox 1.75 /2.25s, they were bang on for the warm low water conditions. 2nd time out Gerry you and I were fishing in a flood top of the bank, you certainly couldn't have done it without those Powermesh 2.75s. Third time out last year, remember a summer level Trent, you bagged big style. Which rods would have suited you better then?

yes we had some great sessions the 3rd time ( proper red letter day) I was using the Powermesh 2.75s and glad I was to be honest cant see me using Fox rods I would rather have that little extra power if I need it
when you say 2.75lb people think ooo thats a bit heavy !!

but as you know it really is down to the action of the rod some 2.75 rods are awful broom sticks but then you get a Powermesh that has such a lovely action cant wait to get well enough to be able to go fishing again

That's fair comment on using a higher TC rod whilst using heavier leads Gerry.

To me you need a rod with a good tip for casting
but then the rest of the rod needs a thru action for playing and absorbing the lunges and when the rod eventually gets compressed the power in the lower section to bully thats how I would describe my Powermesh 2.75lb rods

i'm not sure what you men by 'heavy barbel rod'?

is it for casting heavy loads or big barbel in snags - totally different things

i have caught a lot of double figure barbel on the Trent when after carp - the original Daiwa Infinity X 2.75 is brilliant for heavy loads (not 6/8oz in my opinion) - BUT the best imo is the original Daiwa Infinity X 2.25

this is more a through action than the 2.75 and is truly a superb rod but finding one today is next to impossible and if you find one expect to pay a hefty premium on what was a £200+ rod on release
