Harrison Chimera No1?

Yeah the chimera 1 will bend right the way to the corks with a good barbel on, so does my chimera 2 and torrix, but it’s how it bends that defines the action.w I usually identify through actioned rods by giving them a waggle. If you get a snaking Action all the way through, it’s a through action, and like I said, feels sloppy to me.
My brother has an i power ,would this be alike to a torrix or a chimera?

Just bought one of these. Not used it yet but it's going to be great for the fishing I do. I just know it! It is a fact that the Wessex rivers are mainly Chub rivers now so a large part of the catch will be Chevins. I think a standard 1.75 rod is a bit heavy on them. The rod has a noticeably easier action than the 1.75 Chimera but has all the power I'll ever need for where I fish.
My only gripe concerns the build. The handle is as long as on my Torrix Carp rods! That is totally unnecessary in my opinion.

I have two pairs of these, a pair of no1's and no2's. I bought them factory made from Harrisons in Liverpool. I bought the factory made ones as I prefered them to any custom made jobs I had seen. Also, to get a custome rod builder to make up a rod to the same specks as the factory built rods would have cost a whole lot more money! The manager at the time "Tiss" who may still be the manager was a nice fella and very helpful, he showed me round the factory and their rod builder at work. Anyhow, the no1's are 1.25lb test and a inch or two shy of 12ft, the no2's are 1.75lb test and exactly 12ft long. If I remember rightly Tiss told me the reason the no1's where that bit shorter was to do with the taper. The no3 chimera was 2lb plus test curve, but it felt more than that to me.
The no1 is ideal for chub and barbel, the no2 is also good for them if you need a little more power, and the no3 is a great beach caster 😉.

Interesting. I didn't realise the 1's were 1.
25. I thought I read somewhere they were 1.5. In any event, the one I bought has a great feel about it and will doubtless have all the power I need. I know what you mean about the price. I bought the blank and everything I needed to make the Chimera 2 and it cost a fortune. Easily 50 quid more than I paid for my factory made No. 1!

The Chimera 1's are rated at 1.5lb TC by Harrisons. Lovely rods, they will be ideal for the fishing you described.

First fish I had last year was a 12:10 on a river tamer 1.5 test curve rod. On the Trent 14’ of water under my feet, it took an age to get the fish off the bottom but from then on dealt very well. Unfortunately the barbel chose to hit that rod rather than the one I expected which was 2lb test. Typical!

When I was in the harrisons factory it was about 7yrs back, maybe 8, times flying by! At that time Tiss the manager told me the no1s were 1.25lb test as I said in my previous post.
I'm not saying your wrong, maybe they have changed them in more recent years?

Can I ask on here, and I'm already not expecting many to reply, has anyone had any use of a Kev Baines 3 piece Specialist?

They always marketed them as 1.5lb, but it's always a bit subjective. I think the C3's were initially rated as 2lb, then 2.25lb. Personally I'd say more like 2.5lb. Test-curve ratings are just a rough guide, the least worse way to rate a rod!

Yeah the number 1 is 1lb 8oz
Number 2 at 1lb 12oz
Number 3 at 2lb 4oz

I’d definitely say that the general chimera slower action is better for the test curve system and I agree with your findings Joe 100%. 1 and 2 are probably about bang on and no 3 is underrated. Could even be as much as a 2lb 12oz curve but it’s a long way from being a poker as well.

As has been said already, I think the whole test curve thing is just a rough guide. I have an old Graham Phillips 1 1/4 tc Barbel rod. If you compare that with the Chimera No. 1 there is no similarity at all. It's always hard choosing a rod without holding it beforehand. I'm very pleased with my Chimera No. 1. It feels great. I used it yesterday for the first time on the Stour but couldn't even catch a Chub to test it !
