Hi fellers, just thought I would add my method to the many very good suggestions replying to the original post.
I prefer Elipse pellets in med and large as hookbait and start by drilling them with an 'Archemides' drill with a 1mm bit which you can buy from any 'Hobbycraft' for about a fiver plus a couple of quid for the drill bits. I can even drill 4 mm pellets with this brilliant gadget without them splitting! I tye my hair rigs by first of all tying a mini run ring on to my hooklength which is then tyed 'knotless knot' stylie to my chosen hook (hair length set by ring which will sit at base of pellt as preferred). I then thread a pellet band through the ring and then pass the band through itself to lock it in place on the ring. The band is pulled through the bait using a small splicing needle and a stop of your choice is used to lock bait in place. The ring will not pass through the hole so your bait is secure. This also works with boilies but not soft baits!
Sounds complicated but very easy to do and works with all lines.
