greys rods

hello gents
what are your thoughts on these rods,was thinking about getting a pair of 1.75 tc rods..
heard mixed reveiws..so come on gents,good or bad please let me know your thoughts..

I have a pair of the 1.75 Prodigy's that have been used and abused for the last few years on the Severn. The standard top copes with lobbing out big feeders (5oz+) when neccessary, and the quiver is fine for chub fishing, particularly with the 2oz insert.
 
Agree with steve though I upped to a 2lb test curve for higher water levels. Tips and blank still ok for lower water and chub fishing
 
Does anybody know anything about the prodigy vx range,they do a specimen vx 1,25/1,75 which would also be good for tenching..
Looking at the catalogue they don't do the x flites anymore..

All are now discontinued.

Personally I think they are all far too stiff in the butt section. (and the float rods were beyond ****)
 
ive had the prodigy specimens for a few years now and they are are a great work horse of a rod and can be used for more or less anything i want

the 1.5lb tip will cope with most situations you are likely to encounter , then if a flood comes along just put the 2lb top on

they are also more than capable in a stillwater role , the 1.5lb has dealt with surface caught 20lb carp

could be wrong on this , but i think the prodigy has slightly more back bone than the equivalent x flite

not the lightest of rods , but when they spend 99% of their time in a rest , it doesnt matter in my book and you can pick some bargains up on the 2nd hand market

Could you recommend any other rods..can't really stretch to a pair of torrix just yet..

Luke, I have a pair of Harrison GTi 1.75's I'm selling soon. They've been used about 5 times - as new and a cracking pair of rods, if you're interested?

I have X-Flites in 1.5/2.0 and (original) Prodigys in 1.75. Thoroughly enjoy using them in most situations. The exception is when trying to chuck big feeders long distance on big rivers such as the Trent. I'm convinced that they are softer than many other rods of the same ratings.

Luke, if the price is right I'd speak to Neil. There isn't a Greys rod that can touch the action of a Harrison IMHO.

That may have cost me a sale but it's true.
 
Got 2 x prodigy specimens 1.5/2.0, which I use for all my barbel fishing, great rods. Pretty sure they're Harrison blanks, but could be wrong, cost me 70 quid each, brand new, off ebay.

Much as I like Greys stuff, I really can't see them being Harrison blanks. Not when Greys have their own blank production facility. They'd also have to sell for a boat load more than they do if they were Harrisons.
 
Neither Greys or Hardy rods are made on Harrison blanks.:confused:
 
Got a Greys prodigy 2.0 lb tc and an x-flite 1.5/2.0, there the best rods i,ve ever owned, i,ve not had a rod on a harrison blank so i can,t compare the two. Maybe the Greys are the poor man,s version of the Harrisons, but they have done for me, everything that i,ve wanted from them. So in a nutshell. If you can afford the Harrisons, go for them, if not, the next best thing are the Greys, which i can,t fault.
