i,m new on here so hi to everyone just wondering if anybodys tried the greys day shelter brolly. I want to use it as a normal brolly and the occasional day shelter.also does it fold down like a normal brolly to go in a rod bag. Nobody seems to stock them around sheffield so need a bit of info cheers

Unless they are being sold off particularly cheaply, I suspect I'd be looking at the new Fox Specialist Brolly before the Greys. I'm basing that on having the Supa Brolly which shares the same excellent mechanism.

Oooohhh, want one. That Fox brolly looks the ticket, now where did I put my list to santa.

TFG Power Brolly

These look like the business and you can pick a demo model up for £70. When you consider most brolly shelters are around £80, then to convert into a full bivvy you need a winter skin which might set you back the same again! I have seen the video for the power brolly and with 4 storm poles it looks more sturdy than the pram hood type shelters, and it weighs just 5.7kg!

Hi Andrew and welcome!

I just bought a Greys Shelter Brolly the other month after thinking I wanted something a little better than my leaky 25 year old brolly! The Greys packs into the brolly pocket on my rod holdall no problem. Comes with a bag of seven bivvy pegs and two storm poles. No groundsheet (which would have been nice for the price) but I picked one up from eBay for a couple of quid so no stress.

Plenty stable once pegged out and storm poles attached. You can use it as a standard brolly which is why I specifically bought this model with some particular swims in mind. Many other brolly shelters cannot be used in such a way and will need a large fairly flat footprint to put the thing up which isn't always available on the river banks. Also the Greys can be used Nubrolly style with the central pole attached further back (or not at all if you have the storm poles attached).

Haven't used it in the rain in earnest yet but it looks like it so be fine in the waterproof department. Overall build quality is high. Have spent a couple of nights or so under it and been most comfy.

The only drawback with something like this is the weight. It certainly isn't light but neither is it over heavy like a full on bivvy. I rather have something that goes the distance and provides good stable shelter from the elements than have something very light which is no good when it is needed.

Hope that helps!

Stephen

Indeed. That's the place I bought mine.

I should also mention I slept on a bed chair at the back of the Greys no problem. Didn't look like it would be possible to get sufficient shelter under the Fox?

I have the korum day shelter that can be lowered to fit a bedchair in for an overnighter. Will fit in a rod quiver as well but not the smaller sized ones.
