Go to hookbaits

Massive Spam lover. It was on offer tother day in Asda. £2.70 a tin.(20%off) Bought a cheeky 10 tins again last week. So far apart from 12 maggot caught Barbel the other week, 85% have come on Spam. Its a far better daylight bait than boilies. Boilies come into there own at night, as I firmly believe as a visual round bait, its a red flag. I'd like to know if there's any anglers that do weekends and would give the Boilie catch rate during daylight and Night time. I bet its not much better than 30%.
I would suggest it all depends on your chosen river as to what works and what doesn't.
I find myself using boilies and paste for 90% of my fishing with maybe maggot and caster later in the year accounting for 10%.

If boilies are visual and a red flag in daylight , I cannot really see how a big lump of pink spam makes the barbel throw caution to the wind in the daytime ! Thats coming from a big spam fan , Barbel love it in any conditions

If fishing boilies in the day, I tend to whittle my hookbait into a square or something like. Or cut in half and hair rig back to back. Free offerings of chopped boilie. I can't see how that's more conspicious than pellets. Or indeed spam!

Now the season has been going for a couple of months what’s your go to hookbaits? I always like maggot or small pellet at the start of the season, but as it goes on always find myself going from pellet, to meat, to boilie but can never settle on a winning method.
My homemade boilies & paste would be my go to's
They seem to spark an interest on pressured waters, which gives me immense confidence.

I catch a lot of my barbel in daylight on 20mm boilies.
It doesn’t need to be conspicuous, it needs to be placed in the right location where they are during the day. …. Like under a tree.
