Free Spirit Tamer rods

Hi All,

I have purchased some new rods over the closed season, a CTX River Tamer rated at 1.5lb and a Barbel Tamer rated at 2lb. I'm very surprised to hold them side by side and not see a noticeable difference between the two rods. I would have expected the barbel tamer to maybe have a few larger eyes and potentially a slightly thicker blank, but that isn't the case. If you ignore the name on the blank it would be the same. I haven't ran a line through them both yet, and maybe the difference will be noticeable then with a bend in them.

Has anyone got these rods or visually compared them in the past? I bought the river tamer for summer fishing and the barbel tamer for hit and hold swims.

Thanks in advance.

The guides are probably are the same, I have a Guru dual tip specialist 1.25 and that has larger rings fitted than my new 12ft 1.75 Barbel Tamer

The blanks are probably very similar too with only a 0.5lb difference but you should feel the extra power come in lower down the blank on the heavier rod?

I'll put some line through them, you're probably right that the extra power will be there down the blank. Thanks.
