Free spirit rod choice?

Hi All,

New members here. Hello to all of you.

I am looking for a new rod for chub and light barbel fishing, I am considering the freespirt e class spirit specialist 1.5lb 11ft rod, but wondering how if different from the freespirit tamer? Any one use this rod? Whats the action is like? I have the freespirt tamer 2lb rod, it is lovely, but want to try something different.

I do love Harrison rod, but they are out of my budget at the moment.

Thank you.

Hi - I have the spirit specialist in 11 and 12ft lovely rods to fish with - I have even used them on the Wye, a friend has the tamer rod and I believe the specialists are a more through action rod. Hope that this helps.

Thanks Garry, it is very helpful. Actually I thought the specialist is more progressive than the tamer when I read the description on Freespirit website. Do you say the specialist makes a good rolling meat rod? Thanks.

I have a couple of tamers and would call them through action. My mate has the specialists and I think they are a little stiffer.
Thanks, that is my impression after reading the description. I have the tamer in 2lb, but want something lighter for rolling meat and winter chub fishing. Just not sure if I should get tamer in 1.5lb or the specialist.

I've now realised I posted a v similar question! Anyway here is the information I got from Shaun Harrison at Free Spirit. Hope it's useful - I've ordered the Specialist as a result:
"Similar action but the Spirit Specialist is built using our E Class carbon which is a higher grade of carbon to the Tamer. This basically means it has a faster recovery (more accurate casting) and will transmit more through the rod (nicer fish playing as you feel more).
Hope this helps
Best wishes
Shaun Harrison"

The price difference will be down to the fact that the eclass is a ground blank and the tamer is unground.
Never used either so couldn’t say which is best.

Thanks Kevin, this is really helpful. I think I will go for the specialist as well.

Picked up a second hand Tamer a few months ago........had several big barbel on it now and no complaints.
Might try the other too for chub in the winter.....

Have you seen the Freespirit specialist 11' 1lb t.c rod?

That will make a great chubbing rod, but not sure if rolling meat on it will transmit 'feel' through the rod or not? Beautifully light though!

And from memory, I think it came with a quiver section too?

I don't think the Freespirit specialist has 1lb tc rod? Only Hi S does?

Just seen this on ebay for your consideration Huanzhou. Whatever you decide, good luck. 👍
