Fox tackle selling up...

BREAKING NEWS: Zebco set to buy Fox International | Product News - Angling International

Regarding the Pure Fishing brand, lots of folk I've spoken to the last couple of years really rate the Mach range of rods and the front drag Mach reels. Having had a waggle of a Mach three Match rod, its not too bad. The Penn Affinity big pit reels seem to developed quite a following with carpers this last year or so, as have the Mitchell Avocast Advanced. Obviously not the old Mitchell 300 or 410 but were they really as good as people like to think they were, I don't think so.

Another firm getting a bit of attention lately is the Bait and Feed Company. They have gone out of business but have come in through the back door renaming themselves T B Feeds.

''Mitchell 300 and 410 not as good as they like to think they were?''

You gonna cop it, but how right you are :)

The point I was leaning towards with regard to 'pure fishing' was merely the point that they own companies that have seen/had better days, brands with past although prestigious histories. Has anyone seen a 'must have' product in their ranges be it from Abu, Mitchell Shakespeare or Penn that cant be bettered or was introduced first by Daiwa, Shimano or Fox? The later 3 being market leaders by innovation. If Mr Pure fishing came along with Mr Daiwa, both offering you a sponsorship deal....who would you opt with?
Pure fishing are probably a multi million pound company...I have now idea but I feel that they are tackle retailers not tackle developers. With Zebco, a similar company I imagine to Pure. taking over Fox, I think you have to look at Browning to see if that partnership was a success....and whilst Browning are still here.....like Shakespeare, Abu, Penn etc how much of their gear is on your letter to santa this year? I hope that they leave Fox well alone.

I think you are undeniably right Justin, Pure fishing are not developers of tackle but they are the owners of one of the biggest global providers of fishing tackle having bought out K2 several years ago.

It seems that what pure fishing is doing is using the acumen of the companies they own to develop ranges of tackle across the whole angling spectrum hence, the Affinity and the Avocast are extremely similar reels but the Affinity has a slightly better build quality due to the materials used.

I've not used the new Penn or Mitchell reels yet but, people I know and trust for their engineering know how and their angling ability have. They tell me that the Affinity is a better reel and at a better price than either Shimano or Daiwa reels that they have owned. So much so that they have moved their old reels on and now use the Penn reel for all their carp fishing.

Neil, I don't mind copping it mate, I know for sure that neither could really compete with more modern fixed spool reels :D

Itb all seems to be getting blown well out of proportion. If and a big if Fox is sold it will still be Fox and will still trade under Fox but rather than been independantly owned, Zebco will be the owners, nothing else will change. And if Zebco dont buy Fox they will buy another BIG tackle provider in the Carp world. Also keep your eyes out for another shock whats around the corner ;) ;).

Would be very reluctant to get rid of any of my Shakespeare Excelsior Match rods in delicious green. And they rave about the weight of the Acolytes, these puppies are pencil thin.
