Fox Kevlar Barbel Rods

A friend of mine is thinking of selling his Fox Kevlars.2 rods in excellent condition,just wondering what they are worth,he is based in Tipton (West Midlands) and for obvious reasons would prefer collection

Difficult to answer with any level of accuracy, as it depends on demand at the time. If it’s listed on an auction site and 2 bidders really want them they will fetch good money…I have seen some go for £350 plus and at other times less than £200. Collection may be restrictive to some people. My advice is to decide on a price seller is happy with letting them go for, advertise them and wait until they sell.

I can't find any trace of a Fox Kevlar rod (Barbel or Specialist) selling on ebay recently. I don't remember seeing one offered in quite some time. Those I've seen sell in the past have invariably achieved in excess of £200 unless they were wrecks.

Even the less desirable Kevlex models have been increasing in value over more recent years. They have rarely achieved the very highest prices that the Kevlar rods have, but they too don't tend to go for much less than £200. Kevlex rods recently sold on ebay.

I’ve seen them fetch a lot more than 200. I’d say if they are really clean and complete they can make closer to 300 each which is madness but people want them.
The Kevlars and the kevlexs in barbel rod format have just 3 differences. Reel seats, blank colour and test curves.
Other than this they are identical and the kevlex extreme was actually imo far more useful having higher TCs more suited to barbel rods

Knowing how they seem to fetch more and more year on year my advice would be keep them as long as possible. They are never going down in value and selling smart (right time, listed well, lots of good pictures) they’ll make a lot of brass.

If your mate was to put the pair on eBay at £600 they wouldn’t go today or maybe even in a week but I guarantee someone would buy them for that. With rods that desirable and uncommon you’ve got to stick to your guns and they will get bought as people keep going back to the listing.

Is there a particular reason he's selling them? Both the kevlar and kevlex versions are excellent rods and still better than many premium ones coming out now in my opinion.


I have iterations of both and was VERY lucky to win those auctions for not very much money. I got the kevlex (Extreme version) for £60-something (delivered) and the kevlar for £90-something (delivered), I think likely because in both cases (different sellers and different auctions) the auctions started at 99p and were finishing mid-morning on a weekday when most people are at work, so I wasn't bidding against many other people (so a tip for sellers - always make sure your auction is ending mid-evening during the week or on a Sunday to maximise your chances of a decent sale). This was also several years ago. But yeah, generally, they go for decent money.

He had them as a 21st Birthday gift,used them very occasionally and then stored them so as not to knock them about.In the meantime he’s bought some cheaper Fox rods to use.He has a young son who is not at all interested in fishing,so rather than let them just lie in the loft he wants to sell them (and someone make use of them) and put the money raised into a bank account for his lads “nest egg”
He does look after his gear,and in his words they are like new

Personally I don’t know why people pay such barmy money for them.
Aesthetically they look great but these things fetch as much as a custom built Harrison
I never liked the fox s lite rings much as they were just too flimsy and the blanks which were lovely were also unnecessarily heavy due to the extra layer of Kevlar wrapping
I had a kevlex extreme years ago and it was a cracking rod but it was £100 quids worth at best.
I’ve currently got 2 fox predators on the same type blank. Kevlar wrapped, look stunning, very nice rods but again very heavy compared to a quality pike blank of today. Anyway that’s my own opinion of them. Fact of the matter is people want them badly and if they are like new then your friend should definitely not accept a penny less than 600 the pair.
Someone will come and take them for that if he’s patient and firm on the price.

The kevlex is a far superior barbel rod , to the kevlar. . The black kevlar is far to progressive in it's action, with less power lower down than the kevlex. Which in it's stated tc, still doesn't have the reserve of power for bigger barbel , than rods of the same quality today. Ie Harrison torrix or Free spirit hi s. Although, a really nice rod for your barbel playing pleasure. Don't get me wrong , fantastic rods , but there are plenty of better , more capable barbel rods available now.
P.S . The kevlex wins , hands down.!!
