Hi Phill, There is a float rod thread on Barbel Basics and Juniors. There might be a few suggestions there. I use my Drennan DRX Carp waggler 13 foot rod on the river and it handle's barbel just fine. Not sure how similar it is to the Drennan Tench rod?

If you're patient you should be able to pick a second hand Drennan Tench Rod up off thiefbay for that kind of money. Some do go for silly money though, took me a couple of months to get mine for £60.

Thanks for there responses!
i've looked at a silly amout of rods and all of your links so cheers lads.
I've just been scanning the net as well and found a.......
J W Young Specimen Float Rod 13ft 3pc at what seems to be a good price (£59.99) dont know much about these rods so also any info is great!
also what are the TF rods like their prices seem to be all over the place. I dont really like much of their carp gear so something wants me to stay away?????????????

I've got the TFG TSI15' float rod, nice rod but def not worth the advertised price. Ludlow tackle sell them at a much more realistic price though.

I mentioned this on the other thread, so for fear of repetition (not for the first time on this forum :)); I have a Daiwa Proteus 14P. Pretty nice rod and around £40. 2lb - 10lb line rating...

Sorry to be a pain but does anybody know much about the Shakespear mach 3 XT rod it retails at £89.99 and i have found one new at £45 anybody got any experience with these rods???????:confused::confused:

i have the 15 ft version , and if that is anyhting to go by i would say it would cope with barbs upto around 7lb

inmho , anything more and it would start to struggle

i use it for light trotting when silver are the target and stillwater waggler fishing for tench

At about £100 the fox duolite specialist 13' float is a great rod. I replaced my drennan tench float mk2 with one from eBay for £60, an 'unwanted gift' , result ;-) . If you need something with even more power , the fox kevlex barbel float is worth keeping an eye out for, mine was £70 second hand but looked unused. Point is, if you have a search around £60 or so can go a long way ;)
