Fleece Recommendations

Derek a word of caution when photographing your catches wearing the jacket. What looks like this:

So, cover up!
 
i use a berghaus polar fleece in winter, as far as i am concerned its the warmest fleece i have worn and i have plenty of em, used with a sleepskin top and a waterproof outer coat you,ll never feel cold:)
 
Patrick, Im a mountain Leader and Mountain rescue team member , you can pay a fortune for any fleece mate. The Key is to get your layering system right, spend good money on quality thermals and outer shell. The middle clothing go for what you want but not too tight,you need air between each layer. Hope that helps

I paid a bit for my thermals and is the key for being warm on the banks.

Anything Rob? Surely it needs some wicking properties, especially if you’re carrying a powershift net pole
 
Good point Kevin. The 'fashion' fleeces are useless when it comes to wicking, it's almost like wearing a sponge!

David, they're probably 'silk' to match the rest of the luxury items available to them.;)

Unless it's changed recently Mountain Leader course is a qualification to lead groups in 'summer' conditions, to quote a mutual friend, "more rambler than Rambo", so not sure if it would qualify one to advise on foul weather clothing.

I have to agree though, layering is the way to go and the base layer is the key to keeping warm.

Is a powershift pole strong enough to fight off an abominable snowman?

You little tinker Ade :p , we all know rob is a member of the mountain rescue , and is out in really cold / bad conditions , here is rob on a session on the Teme in the winter :D:D:D

I reckon your advice is bang on Rob. I have been doing a great deal of research on this recently and am following the approach taken by climbers and skiers etc. Have just invested in a Mountain Equipment Touchstone fleece top. Incredibly warm and by far more superior than anything else I have used. It is more expensive but I think I will get payback on the river. I am rubbish with the cold.
