Fish 'N' Tips

Senior Member
Not strictly Barbel, but it certainly has some Barbel content in it.....

Anyone had a look....?

Not my cup of tea TBH, its a bit like Nuts or FHM but with fish.

I'm not adverse to looking at Nuts, FHM or any other of the lads mags, but I'd rather they weren't spoiling it by making the models hold fish......

Can't see it been around for long to be honest.......

Hi men ,

Cant see it lasting either Steve , but it has a chance . Couple of good carp articals in the next one , and i bought this first issue . Its light hearted stuff , not a serious mag , not a knotless knot in sight ,and if taken that way may have a place somewhere concidering a lack of mags anyway .

It caused a stir at work BUT NOT ONE ANGLER did not smile or read through it !!!!!!!!, and some non anglers had a flick . There are some lumps of wood / police that will moan , but in my view if it had a football section on the back 2 pages it would be a cracker !!!.

Also , with the reaction of Paul Bootes pics of lady anglers posted on here , there are some ready made customers !.

Hi men ,

Obviously the football pages would need a non league section for Luton Town :( , but not for long :D.

May even sugest it to them !

I read Carpology a few years ago (a free copy — I would never buy it!) and that was pretty much the same thing as what you are describing, Steve. I remember thinking to myself as I was reading, er, re-phrase that, looking through it, this is complete ballbag. Articles inviting readers to send in pictures of their fishing related injuries, totty in "Carpology" T-shirts on every other page, far too many adverts, relentless plugging of the latest must-have, catch-all super bait/rig...blah, blah, blah... and not one thought provoking article amongst the lot. Utter cr4pulence!

Had a bit of a chat with the Editor a few weeks back on ANother forum, he seems to think it's gonna be a real winner, yea I said like real Anglers like t1ts and bums:(

Hi men ,

I can see all the Telegraph readers will be posting soon , disgusted from Oxford :D etc. Not a tit in sight , a bit of fun that might not last .

Anyway, back to the Daily Sport !!.

not seen it yet, but i have heard about it, it seems like a mag you'de leave in the lav for a quick flick through after a night on the biriani.
mind you ive witnessed a tit or two fishing one of our local waters.

I had no idea that the publishers or the contributors were that desperate to be honest.
The Barbel Society's handling code is reportedly in the next edition. The innenuendo with what it is to describe handling will be endless.

To quote the editor Mark Barrett on another forum.

"The target audience is anglers of ages 16-40."

If that's the case I'll probably give it a miss.

However, just looking at a list of of the contributors I can't see it having much content we haven't seen before and tbh I gave up buying mags a few years ago because I was fed up of reading the same old rehashed articles every few months.

Another thing is the price.......A years subscription is £60, that's £5 per issue, I'm not sure how they justify that; how much are they having to pay the contributors these days?

Tbh I would rather spend that money on a couple of books each year, at least then if you don't like it you stand a chance of getting your money back on ebay.

i bought it today, i read it and enjoyed the articles, yes theres a bit of flesh knocking about but its all in good taste and nothing over the top, its only the 1st issue so all i can say is give it a chance, the articles are as good as any of the weekly's and its full of good and reputable anglers.
as said its aimed at a certain age bracket, not sure about the two tone bit on the front cover but the rest of its fine and in good humour, only my opinion so dont bite my head.
cheers
jerry

ps i know some people dont like to see women in magazines but bear in mind they want to do it and get paid well for it nobody forces them and its there choice

Not seen it yet but been told about it. It some thing different from the norm guess that's why we talking about it wonder how many will read it now after looking at this topic ?
