Fenland Rudd

Tim Penn

Senior Member & Supporter
Hi everyone.

So, this year once the warmer weather arrives one of my targets is a decent Rudd, as an angler who loves going on adventures to different areas I’m thinking of heading towards the fenland drains for my quest, it’s close enough with a really early start to do a day trip, but conversely it’s far enough away for me to have absolutely no idea where to start.

In terms of planning, would anyone on here be able to give me some general information in terms of accessibility, I assume some are member only/not day ticket, where to get tickets from if they are needed and maybe some drains worth looking at as a starting point? I’m in the chilterns hills so I am very much flying blind.

I know a specimen will be a real challenge, which I like, so I’m starting to gather as much info as I can now, there’s an awful lot of water to find out about.

Many thanks

Tim

There are good rudd pretty much all over the Fens. I'm about 50 or 60 miles away from the nearest drains/rivers, but have managed to catch good numbers of rudd well over 2lb from Gt Ouse, Lark and Cam.
Gt Ouse mostly day ticket, Ely town free and packed with fish in winter. Lark has good stretches run by Mildenhall and Lark Anglers, LAA and Waterbeach have good bits of the Cam.
There's loads of other places, but these are ones I'm most familiar with.
