Just wondering what everyones favorite fishing/series is?
mine has got to be Catching The Impossible with Bernard Cribbins and Martin Bowler, fantastic series.
Regards

I just cant see that "passion for angling" can ever be beaten, the banter between Chris Yates and Bob James, was simply unique.

i must admit, when i was young, Wilsons go fishing.
i greatly admire the production quality's of A passion but did find it a little twee.

John Wilson's go fishing has always made me laugh because you can always tell with the poor quality when he's been sat there and he gets a bite the camera, sound etc all changes lol. He never stops laughing either, some great programmes though.

A Passion for Angling captures the reason i go fishing better than any series ive seen, but i also love Catching the Impossible and Martin Bowler's A Fish for all Seasons. I can watch any of the above time and time again.

I can watch them all but Passion for Angling for me. Just a small note for Henry Gilbey for me although a salt water program he embodies a passion for his sport I can relate to. Especially when he loses one hilarious and very reminiscent of me when poor luck strikes.

I think you have to judge things in the time they were done, with the technology that's available today, we have no illusions everything is there, stripped bare, but In its day Bernard Venables's Anglers Corner was great and as a young lad in 1967, they inspired me, as did Angling Today in the early 70's, so much so I did the only episode on Eels, me and Mick Brown had a right laugh doing it, I think the programmes today entertain you more, but for inspiration Anglers Corner gets my vote!

A Passion for Angling for me. It never fails to inspire and remind me why I love angling. I love the music, misty cut scenes and banter.

I remember the first time I saw Go Fishing about 30 years ago. It amazed me that this bloke constantly had a bend in his rod, when mine was usually lifting small dace and roach out of the river. I still love the bit when he's fishing the Royalty and he hooks a splasher(ish) and looks like he's about to get dragged in :)

Cheers,

Andy

'Passion for Angling', inspired me and remains a favourite. It was the fun aspect rather than the 'catch at all costs' approach that appeals.

Thanks for all the replys, seems passion for angling is the favorite, I saw it a couple of years ago but I wasn't as interested in fishing as I am now so I didn't really take much notice, will watch it next time it's on and reply with a relevant opinion.
Thanks

'A Passion for Angling' because watching it recently for the first time inspired me to pick up my coarse rods again after too long a break.

'The Lost World of Mr Hardy' - a brilliant documentary.

'Eastern Rises' - wilderness flyfishing (in Kamchatka), a fantastic soundtrack and some very big, mouse-eating, rainbow trout.

(I've just realised this is my first post, so hello everyone).

As I grew up, my life was dominated by the need to be fishing....or at the very least talking fishing, reading about fishing or otherwise involved in absolutely anything to do with fishing. Naturally then, when the early fishing related programs, such as Jack Hargreaves 'Gone Fishing' and 'Out of town' appeared on TV I was enthralled, devouring them with a passion, loving every second.

Obviously, techniques and equipment have improved beyond recognition now, so 'A Passion' stands out as the ultimate professional production, filmed as it was by the best in the business. An absolute treasure that will never be forgotten by most of the anglers who viewed it.

However....those early programs were so evocative and fulfilling for a young mind craving information, I would have to give them my vote for the memories alone.

Cheers, Dave.

Passion for Angling is indeed great, not least for it's concentration on what makes fishing special, rather than just catching fish. That said, John Wilson's Go Fishing has a special place for me as in those early days of the programme it took you to understanding more about the environment in which we fish - I still remembering him donning his homemade wetsuit to show the viewer the underwater super-structure of the lilly.
If it wasn't for John Wilson I wouldn't have been encouraged to go in search of the Hampshire Avon.

The Passion series was encapsulated and defined by Chris Yates's comment when he and Bob James had an early morning Gudgeon session on Redmire, as the pillars of mist cascaded across the pool, Chris likened them to a "......A Parade of Ghosts"......wonderful, rememberable and atmospheric, to this day on my early morning Barbel sessions I always look for a parade of ghosts.....

With ATV's Angling Today, I think it will always be a favourite of Midlands fisherman (of a certain age), it was the first proper fishing programme we could watch.....and Terry Thomas was the perfect presenter, though Jack Hargreaves's fishing spots on Out of Town, were also welcome, but thanks for the Angling Today tune, it brought back some memories!

Hi Lol,
Terry Thomas's sidekick as I recall was a very young Chris Tarrant, always remember them fishing at Patsull in the days when Carp were a rarity!
