Etiquette and protocol

As I have decided to fish the UK's longest river during the first week of the new season, is it sporting, fair and legal to spend the 14th and 15th of June pre-baiting swims via my dropper and rod in particular areas of the aforementioned river. Not sure how BFW members regard this practice?

lso any other tips for other members regarding sporting practice?
 
Don't think it's illegal and I can't see it as a problem sportsmanship wise as long as you don't try to prevent others fishing vacant swims you have prebaited or overdo it with HNV or pellets.There may well be some very happy anglers benefitting from the prebaiting even.
 
I would never moan at others for fishing pre-baited swims. Best of luck to em. No HNV of pellets for me. Just hemp, corn and casters. Best of luck to every one on the 16th. I might have to cut my feet off as they are becoming rather itchy.

Make sure no other anglers see you doing it. ;)
 
I'm not sure about etiquette and protocol but we do use the chaps on the opposite bank as sporting practice. Well within range of a boilie pult and 15mm rounds, 20 millers for the long range shots! :D
 
etiquette, lol . Oh my gosh i just have to put this poor persons bit of meat they call lunchoen meat on my purely bent Barbel hook and put something on to stop it falling off , i think il use a peice of spaggeti , im sure the poor people use grass.then im gonna chuck it out across the river and wait for a bite... Tally ho You good people , tight lines and all the best for 2011............
 
Good etiquette would be finding someone in your pre-baited swim wishing them good luck and finding somewhere else to fish. Too many times I have been told you cannot fish there I have just baited it! BALLS!
Last year we had chickens strung above the river on our local stretch so to pre-bait with the maggots on the rotting flesh next to said chickens were signs saying reserved for the 16th of June:rolleyes:.
I pre-bait and cut swims if theres someone in them when I get there I just think it was meant to be and theres a bigger fish waiting for me somewhere else.:)

How can people think a free stretch of river can be reserved? unless they camped there without fishing waiting for the magic day, they have no chance!

I must admit that there is a swim i really want to hit but think someone is gonna be there on the first day of the season. If i get it its all good, if not then I will find another.

It still strikes me the amount of anglers there are who start the season never to be seen again after 3 weeks, or not so good weather untill the start of the next season..

I bet they'll be camped out at Collingham this weekend.
If you are pre-baiting please don't get carried away on the smaller rivers, as Westy says the idea is to catch em not feed em.
 
Yes, I tend to let others to do the feeding for me. Follow the pellet-bag trail, drop briefly into perma-camped swims when their occupants have fished themselves to a standstill and retired to a pub or to a commercial...
 
On the Royalty, i generally get out of bed around noon and have a wander around about 4pm, by this time, most swims have been heavily baited a number of times and vacated due to the lack of action. Trundling a pellet at dusk through these swims however usually produces a pull and i find that my kilo bag of pellets lasts all season!

Once again, can I just say a big thank you for all you heavy baiters, my bank manager would also like to pass on his thanks as does the missus!

Also a big thanks to all the anglers who get alongside you on a deserted river bank. A polite chat generally works wonders.
 
NI remember fishing one winters day on a non tree lined river trent bank, with a mate 50 yds apart, which is standard for the Trent, when this chap walked over the flood bank and surveyed an empty bank apart from the 2 of us. I just new he wanted to get between us, which he did. A polite chat from the both of us and some advice and he was on his way to an alternative peg. He caught well and thanked us both for the advice given.
 
It happens on the small rivers as well. Many a time somone has plonked down within 15ft of me!
 
Perhaps we could get John Wilson to do a piece for BBC Look East about these predators? "They crash your swim, catch your fish, splurge it all over the press... Something must be done!"
