Ebay

surprised at that Graham. I thought currently sales listing and commission fee, are free. Can I ask, when you get the monthly statement you investigate and see where the deductions are listed. You can probably get details now but cant remember where they put them.
.
Seems reserve price adds 4% fee of reserve set. So that's right around £9

ah yes, that rings a bell Graham. Thanks . I always used "best offer" to overcome that. Back better?

Just checked my ebay account and the only two items I paid fees on were those sent abroad via the Global Shipping program
No fees were taken apart from those

Doesn't ebay highlight what you'll receive & what the sellers fees are, before the ad goes live?

I seem to recall you could tinker with the advert to lessen the expenditure before committing to it?

I've just sold something for £234 pus postage.

Listing was free. So be interesting how much of that goes into my bank.....
I was outbid into the hands of my arch enemy 😆

completed a small sale this week under the new rules which came in Feb.
Seems they now take about 7.5% from both seller and buyer now.

The last 3 things I sold in Feb I received the full amount I wanted.
Ebay had added extra on each sale as protection for the buyer.

The only slight negative, as I did collection only, was that you can't get your money until the buyer confirms collection with a shared code.

At one stage I had 2 rods, sold for over £600, for over 2 months prior to collection. ( please note, not the buyer on BFW)

And from then, you have to transfer the sum to your bank. Its not done automatically.

Its still free to sell on ebay, they charge the buyer a protection fee:

When purchasing from UK-based private sellers, the Buyer Protection fee is calculated as:

  • A flat fee of up to £0.75 per item, and
  • 4% of the item price up to £300, and
  • 2% of any portion of the item price from £300 to £4,000

They keep hold of your money until the tracking shows the item he been delivered or picked up. I guess thats fair if the buyer is paying for protection and means you'll receive all the money from your sale. I can remember when I paid ebay fees and PayPal fees neither of which apply now

I would imagine they would like to have our money in their bank account for as long as possible which is why they force us to transfer it. I read somewhere its being challenged by someone in the US.

Yes the extra buyer protection? Is why I took my stuff off, eBay as there’s already buyer protection? And it makes private sales more expensive to the buyer, I believe it’s a way of covering “the free to sell” listing? So To be competitive with business sellers I would have to reduce the price I originally wanted!

that's what I thought Dave but the sale price accepted was £20. I was told I had 18.50.
the code is easy really, either scan the code via telephone and follow directions or use the code number supplied, ( that has existed for a while)

I’m not sure then, Alex. Everything I’ve sold recently I got the full amount for, it’s obviously not as straightforward as I thought
