Ebay

Had a notice yesterday stating that rules changing again relating to fees next month. I need to read again but seems to be going over the the auctioneering theme. Whereby the buyer pays a premium but one which is included in the price.. Whether this means both the seller will have a new fee to pay unlike now or merely the buyer. Any thoughts out there?

I have just read about this too. Looks like they are moving to a scheme similar to Vinted, where the buyer pays a compulsory fee to give them buyer protection. Think this will be included in the item price so won't affect the seller. I have bought a couple bits from Vinted and never had any issues.
I also read that Ebay are to make it compulsory to use their own postage arrangements at some point soon. Not sure is that is a positive step or not yet.

Cheers for that Steve. I haven't used vinted. Not sure it's just the season but ebay felt quiet for rod/ reels in the past 3 months.

I've also just seen that sellers won't have their money released until the item arrives.

I'm sure eBay will soon just be another Temu or AliExpress and won't be a place to sell pre-owned items

Yes, looks that way. Sad really that for me as retired, they have been a wonderful platform to buy try keep and or sell rods and reels for many years. End of an era.

It's very confusing for sure

FYI (I have sold on Vinted) :

I set the price that I want, that's the price that's listed and it separately lists a buyer protection fee (not sure if this is a fixed %)
eg.
Price £15.00
Buyer Protection fee £1.45
Total £16.45
Postage cost ascertained at checkout
The buyer pays that price plus the postage cost

I get £15

I've read the ebay stuff and find it confusing, need to have another look.

I've just sold something for £234 pus postage.

Listing was free. So be interesting how much of that goes into my bank.....
I fear you may be disappointed, Graham.
Last time I sold on Ebay I thought they had made a mistake with what I received and what the item sold for.
I then looked at their cut percentage and all became clear...!!!!

I think Ebay died some time ago and find Facebook Marketplace far more effective (locality) and cheaper with less agg! Ebay is good for very rare / peculiar / international items but thats it IMO . . .

I thought the same Chris, and have sold on Facebook much more in recent years. However, Facebook is a real pain as you (well I did anyway) get loads of time wasters messaging you then never responding, or offering stupidly low prices. It's fine for larger items you don't want to post, but I still prefer eBay to achieve the national coverage to maximise the selling price.

Selling on eBay has become a bit of a mare IMO, too many chancers, idiots and time wasters. Or at least that’s my experience. However, for buying it can still throw up some bargains, especially when seller has listed an item badly/incorrect or is local pick up only and your willing to travel

I sold a rod over the weekend, I received the full price + postage and I’ve just transferred it to my bank account.

I also went out and got myself a tube from carpet right at lunchtime today, paid for postage and dropped it at FedEx which is 5 minutes drive away and it’s arriving tomorrow morning.

Being this happy with myself will no doubt lead to it turning up in a squashed tube in four pieces :)

I’ve sold a few bits over the last month or so and it’s easier than it was, using the eBay postage can work out cheaper than buying it separately in my experience. For a few pence here and there im happy to use it it’s so easy.

Their postage is no good for sending rods of course.

I have sold a few things (not rods) on eBay since they removed the selling fee, I received the full price, it’s all went well I should say. I use my own carrier though.

I hope that's true Huanzhou.

I know there is no fee to list now.
Not just list, also no commission fee now.

surprised at that Graham. I thought currently sales listing and commission fee, are free. Can I ask, when you get the monthly statement you investigate and see where the deductions are listed. You can probably get details now but cant remember where they put them.
.

Agree FBM has its challenges; but normally if you price 'right' (ie expecting to reduce slightly anyway) then items can get sold rapidly and legit individuals want to do the exchange pretty much immediately. Last month I sold a pair of skis to a guy I didn't know that was literally two roads away within a couple of hours of placing the ad!
