Drennan

I know this has been mentioned in other threads I could not find but the other day whilst on the bank the internal bush of my Super Specialist decided to crack. Called Drennan who dispatched a new one FOC, and it was with me the next day.

Now that is excellent service in anyones book :)

Yes well known fault Drennan settled for replacing parts instead of fixing the issue.

No Neil foreign. Haven't always been the nice man I make out to be

I really like the Drennan Twistlock but I recently had a different fault with mine where the riveted thread came away from the pole when I was netting a small barbel. As per usual, I was just moving the pole back through my hands rather than lifting vertically. Drennan resolved the problem promptly as they sent me out a new end section FOC, despite it being a second hand purchase.

I now have my Twistlock, a Gardner Specialist plus an old Powerstretch. On the river where the Drennan failed me I think I'll be using the Gardner as it has quite a high flow rate and this, coupled with the weed you pick up during the fight, demands a very strong pole. The Gardner has the best combination of weight to strength and rigidity in my view.

Had one for years, if you keep it clean and grit free it works forever.

I would tend to agree with that, perhaps that's why it went for six years without a failure! Could be also because it does not see many fish? :(

Ahh. that’ll help mine out too John But it does get used a lot for recovering miss-cast tackle!

Kevin,

For goodness sake, do yourself a favour and use a proper fixed spool reel as opposed to that squeaky old thing you use and then your tackle wont end up in't trees

Richard your talking to a man who lets his brolly fly into the Severn, hes either poorly trained as an angler or the world's worst kite surfer

John,
provided that the internal thread of the locking widget hasn't been stripped, the locking function can be restored with the original widget. You just need to build up the outer diameter of the widget to compensate for totally unavoidable wear. I use brush on superglue on the four segments and then, once hardened, key it with a bit of emery cloth. If you go too far, the wiget won't fit back inside the outer pole.

It still baffles me that so many folks moan about this. It's a part that will wear with time and use. Moaning about it is akin to complaining that brake pads and tyres wear on a car.

BRAKE PADS WEAR ON CARS!!!!!

Get me brembo on the line!

Well put Chris

To be fair Ade she's the boss when your not there
