Drennan Twist Lock Pole

Has anyone noticed that there is a difference in the new twistlock poles, the inner section of the newer poles are plain grey and are not of the mottled type, the grey inner pole has a grey widget and the mottled pole has a black widget, whether this is going to make a difference, i suppose only time will tell.
Brian.

The thread going into the widget is tapered to produce the expansion. If the brass thread on the widget were solid, it would either not expand or it would break. However, looks like Clive has the answer.

Yep, if it were split four ways it might suffice. How would you bond the collar to the plastic and how much more would you pay for the end product? I'm sure it's not beyond possibility. I reckon it might be beyond economic sense though. Far easier and cheaper to supply spares in plastic.

However, if the thread on the collar was unstrippable, how long would it be before people tried screwing it up so tight that they cracked the outer wall of the carbon tube?

Chris,

I agree with you that the Drennan handle is an excellent product, light strong and stiff, and if used sensibly it will give years of service. But it appears that it is not suitable for everyone. Perhaps it should come with a warning label along the lines of

What's "manintenance" ? Is it something to do with camping?

I am neither of above but I don't like buying anything with inherent manufacturing problems. It seems we have a split camp on this one, suffice to say that is human nature to have different opinions, but why do you get so hot under the collar about everything?
Go fishing Richard and report back :rolleyes:

Firstly my apologies regarding typo’s as they are irritating, but why mine should come in for special mention as opposed to other posters escapes me.
As always the intended meaning of my response has been misinterpreted. What I was alluding to is if you can’t manage to operate a landing net handle successfully then what chance of being able to operate a rod and reel, let alone actually catch a fish?

I reckon there is a direct correlation between poor barbel fishing conditions and some BFW members swinging handbags at each other about subjects that really are not worth getting wound up about , we are talking about a landing net pole here for goodness sake . Lets just go fishing and be nice to each other :D

Well I managed to cope this Tuesday last with a barbel of 11and 10lb, not bigging myself up you understand, just saying like.
What were you doing thinking up your next vitriolic post on here?

Because it is actually funny? Or it could be something else of course, you decide. No need to take things personally, just join in the jolly jape :D

Richard, you have pretty much answered your own question.

In picking up on typos I am just being playful. I make many myself but, critically, I don't hold myself out as any kind of expert on anything or, in giving an opinion or view on something, do so in a way that seeks to invalidate, demolish, belittle the views of others. You have. And if that is the approach you choose to take and the way in which you intend to conduct yourself on this forum, then you need to be very certain of your facts and there needs to be the highest quality embedded in what you write. If not, then you will open yourself up to the possibility of playful abuse. There is a phrase-if you can't take it, don't give it.

So in your latest post, you ask why you are being singled out in terms of typos and then you end with a very provocative and silly accusation about a person's fishing competency. That's why.

Correcting someones spelling should only be used as a last resort, even if you are just joshing. Shows a lack of imagination.

"Comforting": announcement by a Caribbean lost property department.
"Himalayas": Hermaphrodite chickens
"Canary": Extremely hirsute

I think there is a great deal of fun and imaginative play to be had with language, words and grammar.
