Any one use these rods and know if they would be too over gunned for small river barbel fishing never fished with one so no clue on what there like any info would be great lads

Awesome top rated all round barbel rod. One if the best off the shelf rods made in the last 5 years.

clive would you say it would be soft enough for small river barbel and chub cheers

No problem at all.

read underpowered ?

handled one a few years ago on the ribble , a power version i think , was very alarmed at the way it went straight through to the butt , should be fine on a small river though ;)

would you say the stated tc is over rated then stuart

Excellent rods had pair for six seasons and had barbel close to 14 pounds on them , its a shame they have stopped making them .

danny if you dont mind me asking what reel do you use with them mate

would you say the stated tc is over rated then stuart

This sort of thing is very subjective Robert, in my book, they lacked any backbone and felt sloppy

I prefer a crisp action with the power coming in around the middle of the blank, that rod just seemed to bend forever without really applying any pressure

Your much better off getting hold of one and putting a reel on it to see what you think, your the one that matters

Brilliant rods, the power is all through and I've used them to chuck 6oz leads on a flooded Severn and fully loaded 4oz feeders right across the Lower, so I'd say they are not under gunned ! Fine for small rivers too ! I would say though that they do BEND A LOT but I like that ! Each to their own ! I've had fish to 12lbs on a flooded spate river using them !
That said, I did sell them to fund my I Powers !

I have one I also have an I Power and X Flite all with 2lb tips but I tend to use the Drennan on a flooded Wye, just preference as they are all good rods. I have no bad things to say about them use with confidence.

Good advice on this rod lads seems to be all positive cheers

I have had one for a few years now and its a great rod for small or large rivers and had barbel to 15lb off the bristol avon with no problem, Yes they do bend right through but i also like that.
