Disgorger

The Exceed disgorgers on eBay are not copies. They are still produced by WHT Mouldings. The only difference is that the daughter of the original owners has taken on the company after a fallow period.

I have been using the Exceed disgorgers since they first came to market. At that time, they had a daft sticker on the shank with the branding on. These stickers used to fall off in fairly short order. It was quite similar to the stupid raised bump sticker that some Fuji reel seats have. Exceed soon got around to making the Exceed branding part of the moulding. This occurred before the fallow period. If you have an Exceed disgorger with a smooth flat oblong section on the handle, it's likely to be where a sticker was (or should have been).

I also have a set of the green versions, bought before the fallow period. As far as I'm concerned, the plastic is not as rigid as on the white versions. Unfortunately, I've never seen the loop tier type in white plastic.

I'd love to see the loop tier variety made in the white plastic.
I don't recommend the green plastic version.
I'd love to see an even bigger specimen version for bigger hooks.
The larger size will cover hooks from about 18 to 12ish (depending on the size of the spade/eye and the wire gauge).
I wouldn't recommend the small version to those who aren't routinely using hooks of size 18 or smaller.

Strange…. I’ve got both green and white ones from years back, long before the mph marked ones and I don’t think the plastic type makes any difference at all when using the larger head size discorger.

You’d have to be pretty rough handed to break or bend either of those. I’ve never managed it yet.

The narrow heads granted I have bust afew of those in the past but tend not to use those much unless I’m on 18 or smaller.

The large ones I use all the time and they’ll go over a size 10 super spade no problem at all. That’s a very common size hook for me using meat in the summer and the exceed discorgers I use all the time don’t have any issue going over them tied in 0.22 for specimen barbel.

I read somewhere the large size can handle 8-16, and small is for 16-20? Anyway ordered some large ones for general float fishing and small ones for my micro fishing.

I will leave the large hooks (8+) for the forceps.

I never said anything about breaking them, just that the green ones are slightly more flexible than the white ones. I prefer the slightly stiffer white ones. I have both white and green pre and post "MPH". (I've even got at least one of the originals, minus the sticker.) I can't discern any differences between pre and post "MPH" of the same colour.

Oh I see. Fair enough I can’t say I’ve noticed alot of difference to be fair.
I like them both in both sizes.
I don’t particularly like the loop tyers though. They are a bit cumbersome on the back of a discorger in my veiw.

I can’t see any difference between the pre and post mph versions either. They are absolutely identical.

Looking at the post on maggot drowners I’m very late to the party on realizing these can be obtained again😂. Today is a very good day. I honestly thought we’d lost these things years ago.

They probably would go over a spade 8 in some brands and maybe not in others. The line thickness on a spade is going to have as much of an impact as the hook itself.

I was looking over the old ones earlier and mine are well worn in where they slide over the hook. The hole certainly is opened up more than the new ones I can see. It looks like they might need a bit of use and wearing in before they’ll start slipping over bigger hooks with ease.

That’s one of the brand new ones.
That’s a size 8 garbolino match xs tied in 0.22 my preferred hook pattern of choice. It goes over comfortably but I’d say that’s its upper limit

So, reading through all of this, the white ones are the preferred choice, where do you buy them ?

Anyone got a link ?

For many years I’ve religiously stuck with 1 discorger type only.
Not the most exciting topic granted but I’ve bought and used hundreds of them over the years and the only ones Ive ever deem worthy of my tackle box are the exceed tools based on the fact they are bright and visible in both white and fluro, Very durable and unlike others these actually 100% stay on the line
I’ve got some with loop tyers on the back too but I prefer the plain discorgers without the tyer when I’m actually using them.

Going back probably 8 or more years ago i noticed they were getting unobtainable and i literally emptied the stock out of Nathan’s in derby to see me out.

I’ve lost afew along the way since then and snapped a couple of the narrow heads over time.
by chance I spotted a seller on eBay last week with plenty of stock of these. I haven’t even considered looking for them since buying a load, thinking I’d never see them for sale again.

So I bought a load more but I was thinking they might just be Micky mouse copies so didn’t want to comment until I’d seen them properly.

They arrived today and they are absolutely 100% the real deal, genuine exceed tools identical in every way to my originals from many years back.

If anyone else is a big exceed discorger or loop tyer fan then your in luck because you can still get them. Maybe you already know that …..maybe they’ve been available for years and I haven’t had a clue 😂

I thought like most brilliant things they were gone for good.

Artery forceps every time for me, you need a spare one as well.
