I'd happily use them for both. Close to medium range carp fishing where big chucks aren't required and big/flood river barbel fishing, in fact, any water barbel fishing.

As Bob says, but I have the barbel rod which has a different code number from yours. I think the "C" in number probably denotes carp as the barbel Specialist rods are PM-XS. Also I think the barbel rods were sold as 1.5TC and 1.75TC. These are clearly 2.25.

They were definitely carp rods. At the time, 1.5lb was the rating on the Barbel rod in the Powermesh range. Even that was an increase on the 1.25lb Avon rods that many used previously. Power creep in many types of rod has been steady since the early nineties. I remember my first carp rod in the 80s being 1.5lb TC. The next was 1.75lb. My first quality set of carp rods were the original Powermesh Carp in 2.5lb TC. I actually thought I'd gone a bit too far getting rods so heavy. However, they are really through actioned which took the edge off. These days, there are more powerful barbel rods and the vast majority of carp and barbel rods have much faster actions. You are fairly hard pressed to find a 2.5lb TC modern carp rod.

The size and number of guides is usually the best way to determine if it was built with carp or barbel in mind. Carp rods tend to have a minimum sized butt ring of 35mm and no more than 6 or 7 inc tip on the whole rod.

On a barbel rod you’ll find at least 8-9 inc tip and generally the biggest you’ll ever find on a barbel rod butt section is 25-30mm

Not always the case but it’s definitely the easiest quickest way to determine whether it’s a barbel or carp rod.

The product code on these rods tells you all you need to know.
The original Powermesh Carp rods were PMC **** the Powermesh Specialists PMS ****.
The follow up X range of Powermesh rods were PM-XC **** and PM-XS respectively.

As far as I recall, both original and X series Powermesh ranges had Pike/Esox variants. I believe that the product codes would have been PMP and PM-XP. As far as I recall, the original Powermesh Specialist range did not include a specific barbel rod, just Avons of different lengths. The Powermesh-X Specialist range did include a specific barbel rod as well as the Avons.

I have a pair of 11' 9" Avons from the same range as Chris mentions above, the PM-XS. It took me bloody ages to find the second to make a pair. Absolutely fantastic rods for off the peg!
