Derby railway angling club

I got in! Looking forward to next season. Does anybody know if they allow overnight parking in the car parks or do we have to find somewhere to kip down overnight?

22. No camping on any club water under any circumstances. Our fisheries and car parks are for angling only NOT for camping.

BMAA rule 22

Wanted to join BMAA last year, but joined Derby. Now the dilemma is do I switch to BMAA for the new season. Decisions, decisions.

I've seen and heard anglers asleep on the bank in bedchairs in open fronted bivvies, and someone using their van to sleep in. It's a difficult one as the BMAA has effectively stopped you being able to sleep by the river, OK on their stillwaters though.

You must stay awake at all times when fishing the river (Which I agree with) But what would be nice is to be able to get some sleep if you've reeled in or stopped fishing. It must be difficult for those anglers who have to travel a long way to get home, who've potentially been awake all night. Dangerous too.

Edit; Having said all that, the Barbel society seemed to be able to somehow organise a weekends get together a while back on BMAAs water. They must have been really tired. ;)

Yes Simon, and they were using bivvies . Here is rule 23.

23. Night fishing is for members only unless an application is made to the secretary for a single guest (non fishing) to join them (this must be approved before the date). When night fishing it is only permitted to use a single bivvy or a brolly (NOT tents) – If night fishing on a river brolly’s only, (no bivvies or tents permitted on any river).

I'm sure it won't be a problem. My van doesn't look like a camper it's just ordinary. You wouldn't know i was in the back. I've never had a problem in the past.

Did they have use of the bottom field as well Tom, do you know ??

The chances of getting checked on some sections of river are pretty slim if I'm honest. I've never been asked for my license on the Trent.

I park my campervan (my only vehicle) over night in BMAA car parks on the Dove and Upper Trent - but don't sleep in it as I fish all night.
It's fine to park overnight in the car parks, as long as you're fishing. If you happen to fall asleep at 3am....well, matchsticks are still available. :)

Looking at the clubs website the Trent is no night fishing? Or is this a rule for new members? Either way it's no big deal. It's a small but well equipped caddy. It just looks like an ordinary van not a camper.

You can night fish most of the Trent, you just can't be asleep on the bank, even if you've reeled in. The club class that as camping. You can use a brolly or an open fronted bivvy, but you cannot have it zipped up, and no tents. There is a small stretch of the river at Milton, opposite the white house that is no night fishing.

I can't tell you how bailiffs I've seen at three in the morning, on the Upper Trent. Actually I can - none. And not just at three in the morning either. Let me put it this way - you won't be expelled from BMAA for having a quick unscheduled five minute nap on the bank. :)

Nick - what I can tell you about the Upper Trent is that it's exceptionally difficult to find the fish at this time of year. Unless you live around the corner and can take advantage of favourable conditions at short notice....it can be blank after blank after blank. That pretty well sums up my winter on the Upper. The reason I go there, though, is that there are some fantastic fish which, if the conditions are good, can put a big smile on your face. And it's such a great river, in terms of character. I keep reading the mantra that 'effort equals reward'. Does it heck! 😃
