Dedicated Chub Rod

Like Adam, I've got a few rods in my locker, but I do agree with Graham, above.
My best chub of over 8lb and decent other chub have in the past fallen to my drennan super medium 11.6ft-13ft combo rods.

I saw one a year back up on ebay and snatched it, couldn't let it go, they're that good!
Best feeder rods I've ever used.

The heavy version of this rod would be a brilliant buy too. But these Drennans very rarely come up for sale these days.

I do find it a bit amusing to ponder over what rod we should use to target Chub etc, the Chub don't care about what make be it Drennan Harrison etc not concerned about test curve of the rod used, or is dedicated to Mr Chub. He won't care neither should we, I guess we all could select at least 10 rods that could be dedicated.
What I know about Chub they are not hard fighters, cunning yes, and will mug you off in nearside snags in a heartbeat.
More important is what the venue is to dictate what rod, small river an Avon rod, larger rivers perhaps a 12 ft feeder rod, or if you are still unsure do what the great a John Wilson did long a big black slug on a big Chub with a willow branch as a rod, he caught of course.

That’s a great, versatile rod. I used mine on the Thames last year after being ‘done’ repeatedly by chub when I tried using a Chimera 2.

My only problem with that ‘match’ style of rod is the section configuration. I like to carry made up rods in a quiver and that really demands 2 equal sections (including the quivertip). I can almost cope with 3 equal sections (the Daiwa) but rods like the Carbonactive with a detachable butt are impossible. A shame because that blank is brilliant.

Ive recently bought a CTX quiver rod (12ft 2 piece) for next winter and I have high hopes for that……time will tell.
 
Rods I've used specifically for targetting chub on the Swale. Also caught countless on barbel rods as does everyone, but would always go with a tip rod for chub as winter bites from big fish can be very delicate. Trent might be a completely different proposition?

12' Daiwa Amorphous Whisker Feeder - bit lacking on bigger( 4+) fish
12' Fox Royale 1.5 tc specialist - very good rod and cheap as chips.
12' Daiwa Theory barbel c/w tip 1.75 - very good but a bit heavy, imagine 1.5 would be excellent( that's if they exist?)
12' Drennan Puddle Chucker - bit lacking on bigger( 4+) fish
12'6 Preston Carbonactive - bit lacking on bigger( 4+) fish but a lot of fun to use.
11' Harrison Chimera 1.25tc - too numb in tip for winter fishing with naturals and too short for nearside snags when they kite to your bank
13' Cadence #3 feeder - very good , but a bit too long

Ended up getting a 12' Torrix 1.25TC twin tip specifically for chubbing- spliced tip on one top section, other is a carrier section that accepts Drennan tips > 4oz - Perfect for what I do - bite detection as fine as I need it to be or I can put in a heavier tip if there's some push, and on the strike a powerful but progressive blank that holds big chub away from snags for the first few seconds of a tussle but soft enough in the tip not to get cracked off. Plenty of power to boss them in flow and keep them away from snags.
Plus light as a feather which is good for holding all day, but for me helps tremendously with accurate & consistent casting.
And a helluva good summer barbel rod to boot. ( not this summer)

The Sulis rods are excellent imo.

I've got the 11' avon quiver and the 4 piece avon and really like them.
