Decisions decisions

Apart from the 5000 XTEA, CC
Love my XTEAs so much I had to buy a ‘back up pair’ that I got as a bargain, but then I also treated myself to some Thunnus which I also love! Ridiculous really but just can’t bear to sell any at moment. I think I have a reel addiction

If you can find one, the Thunnus is a nice upgrade.
The clutch is unreal. It will still slip very smoothly when almost locked up solid. There’s a bearing built into the spool itself preventing all possibilities of sticking.

Have you tried a Thunnus spool on a D
Rich? Or I'm thinking a spool bearing upgrade for the D,
Looking at the schematics there's 3 components.Don’t no if the main shaft is a different size though.

I haven’t actually but when I’m home tomorrow I’ll let you know if it fits or not. Good shout that would be an excellent upgrade to the D

Those 3 components make up the bearing I was referring to and on the 4000 model they are actually built into the spool not on the shaft so if the clicker is the same it could well fit

I was chatting to our member Richard Isaacs about the Thannus 4000 that I have....
I impulsively brought them a few years ago from felindre Swansea after seeing they were the only place in the UK that had these left in stock.
They didn't have the 6000 size, so opted for the smaller 4000's for my smaller venues.... Its insane that I've not used them yet & was contemplating on selling, but I know I'd be making a huge mistake. The cosmetics are a bit too blingy, but heard they're meant to be a good reel... Perhaps I should give them a go.

Yes your right, the schematics were for 6000 d and 6000 thunnus.Bearing not showing on the 4000.

Well what can I say…… nice one Dave I don’t know why I didn’t try this before 🤷🏻

It’s all happening for 4000D owners. You can indeed upgrade your clutches massively to a bearing assisted assembly for the price of a Thunnus 4000 spool. Definitely worth it imo.

On the thunnus 4000 you have this bearing built into the spool to eliminate any friction between the spool and seat and shaft. This means the delivery of your clutch no matter how tight it’s set should not stick as a result of the washers clamping the spool down. It also means the delivery is bearing smooth. It’s an open side bearing so you oil it every now n then.
You also get the upgraded carbon washers and a less bling spool (just)

I’ve checked all the dimensions carefully and obviously fitted and tested it. They are perfectly safe to interchange.
Well done Dave good call.

Just a shame the Thunnus doesn't have a spring loaded metal line clip. So I'll stick with the XT FA spools for now (which work perfectly for me...)

Good to know though Richard. Interestingly the Thunnus spools aren't a lot different in price to the 4000D's.

Wish I hadn't sold my Ds now 🤣
don’t suppose this will work with OCs ? Although I upgraded to carbon drag washers and the clutch is fine , but I’d like to experience a bearing assisted clutch all the same

Wicked....
That just leaves whether a bearing upgrade is possible for the 6/8000.
