I had a look at these when they first come in at work very similar to the fox eos 5000,7000

what do you think compared to the xtea5000??
ive just been looking at the daiwa theory sp which has quick drag!! nice price too lol

Hi David not seen the 400oc or d as its not something we stock in our side ofvthe shop althogh i can say the 800oc is a cracking reel. If im not mistaken the D is the older model?. The only downside to the 8000 is the spool is too deep and not long enough (imo)

The D model is a more expensive and in my opinion a more substantial version of the OC.Some tackle shops only stock the OC model due to price issues. They are both,to my mind,a modern version of a sea spin.I bought the 6000D for its cranking power when using big feeders on the Thames/Wye.

cheers guys im gonna go and see them in the flesh and compare them on my rod!!
and try and tap the missis up for some early xmas presents lol.

I note that there weren't any replies to this thread that actually commented on the Emcast BR's, these reels look very good value but has anyone actually used them for barbel?

steve not personally used emcast br but we have them in at work and they do look a great reel and I'm sure they be up to the job.
£74.99 you get a single handle plus a double handle you also get a extra spool and this is metal not a cheap plastic one! also comes with a reel bag.
regarding sizing 3500 up to 5000 we do all reels are the same size only difference is the line capacity(size of spool)
i do own a 4000 oc and the clutch is silky smooth and this reel is suitable for rivers like the teme/dove and also suitable for the severn/ribble at normal levels but would like a bigger reel in flood.

i don't think you'd go wrong with the emcast:)

Hi John, how does the emcast compare in size to the 4000 oc ? I have the oc's but would like something a little bigger for when she's pushing through a bit

slightly bigger about the same size as a shimano 5000 bait runner.
I'd imagine they'd be fine but my 3500bs really are the business in general;)

as you've already got the 4000 oc i don't think you'd gain much and would be better going for the oc 6000 for your flood work or if money not a issue get a 6000d.

Hi David,
I purchased a Daiwa emcast 3500br a couple of weeks ago & I found the reel very good, solidly built, superb drag, very smooth & you cannot go wrong for the money. The only negative point for me is that daiwa did not include their one touch folding handle on the emcast unlike the Regal z baitrunner have which I use as well & I find this function very useful when packing up or when you have really cold fingers! Hope this helps.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I'll have to get to the shops and have a play with one.

my 3500 emcast br arrived today and quickly spooled it up...
stuck it on a rod and tied the line to a post in the garden and gave it a right old tug, went right through the range of the drag,, it was faultless..
i have a couple of re 5000 shimanos and it's about the same size but not quite so long in the body..took an identical amount of line to the 5000 shimano spool... put the double handle on as i prefer those, feels solidly built compared to the re.s.. well pleased with it and ordered another..

Had a play with the Emcast in a tackle shop yesterday and it feels very solid, definitely going on the birthday wish list!
