Daiwa Amorphous Whisker 11/13' Feeder

Hi All
I was offered one of these recently and whilst I really can't justify any more rods, I simply couldn't resist.
I understand that back in the day they were at the top of their game but this must be quite an old rod as it has the old style reel seats( not Fuji screw down types)
It's very light , although it looks a good strong rod and although I'll definitely use it for chub fishing, I just wondered if many of you have used them for barbel fishing?
I'd only use it under certain conditions / rivers/ swims and have plenty of beefier ones to choose from for big feeders/ big flows.
The chap I got if from had some old Sears barbel rods built on North Western blanks and he told me they were terrible for locking up.
I notice that the Whisker has a similar construction in that the butt section has a spigot which fits into either the extension piece or the mid section if using at 11'
Would hate to bend into a fish next season to be met with a loud crack:rolleyes:
Any comments/ advice always appreciated

I've got a piece of Daiwa Kevlar from that ear in the form of a AKN116, rare as hens teeth, was marketed as a carp stalker rod, but with a 1.5 lb tc. Had it rebuilt with some cork and a few more rings and it makes the perfect rod for rolling meat, prefer it to my 11ft 1.75tc torrix in that regard. There's a kevlar spinning rod from the same era that go for silly money, when they appear for sale.

I also had a Daiwa kevlar bomb rod from that time, which was lovely, but was sold many many years ago.

I have one of these rods back from when they first came out. Still use it now for the occasional Trent bream session. In fact I caught my first two double figure barbel on it. 10lb 8oz and 11lb 14oz. They are even now a great rod for big river chub and bream. Bit lightweight for barbel. They don't lock up though and will chuck 4oz a long way. I won a lot of money using it in my match fishing days.
Love my Amorphous!!

They built a stick float rod under the Amorphous name with an extremely fast spliced tip. Even now it’s one of the best light line stick float rods you could lay your hands on.
a lot of the rods from that era were way ahead of their time.
diaflash, older ultegras, mk1 blue diamonds, Amorphous, Antares etc etc.
These quality 90’s rods Put a lot of modern rubbish to shame.

I have the Stillwater version and have landed Barbel on it in the past! It was a great bream rod on the river I fished as there are weed beds close in and the extra length helped keep those fish out!

Yeah I’ve got one too. Among other blue diamond rods. They were such lovely blanks and quality rings too.
I haven’t use any of them for a long time.

I still have an original Whisker Kevlar 11/13 a little bit heavier but still a lovely rod, you used to be able to get a hollow tip for them, to cope with heavier loads/bigger fish, they certainly did one for the Whisker Kevlar & the later Connoisseur which i also have, i dont think youll need to worry about the rod letting you down......

The Normark 2000 was the daddy of them all

Thanks all
I had a go at the weekend and although the fishing was pretty poor with just 1 chub the rod was very nice to use and considering the age it really has stood the test of time
I will do some Distance Stillwater bream fishing with it as my river season is sadly over now
Normally I’m absolutely knackered by now and ready for a break, this year I’ve got cabin fever !
Roll on 16th
Note to self - NO MORE RODS - close season is dangerous for wallet
