Custom Torrix ringing.

I've just placed an order for a new 11ft 1.75 Torrix with my local rod builder. Over the years I've had rods built or owned rods from all the top carp rod builders, Vic Gibson being my favourite as he used to do all the Yateley builds.

Anyway I had Duncan Smith from my local tackle shop build my set of Harriosn Aviator's for my 40th last year. I'd seen his work in the shop, was very impressed and after talking to him, in depth, decided I wanted him to build my rods. I' couldn't have been happier, I've attached some pictures, although the build is pretty boring for some, they are perfect. His attention to detail is second to none and I'd put his work up against all the better known builders.

He's going to build my new Torrix and when I sat with him the other day to discuss it I wasn't sure what I wanted, ringing wise, I know what rings I want, just not sure on the pattern. So if anyone could tell me what they had done on their Torrix I'd be very grateful.

I like Mark Tunleys specialist ringing pattern of 7 plus tip with the Fuji k series guides.

It includes a 20mm double legged ring on the butt section.
The remaining 6 guides on the tip section are single legged down to a 7mm tip guide.

It makes the rod feel lighter and there’s far less points on the rod locking up the action over the more fashionable 9-10 all double legged rings.

Yes and it was the same on my 12ft rods aswell

Just to confuse you, my 11ft 1.75 Torrix has 8 plus tip (also built by MT).

It wasn’t built for me but I really like that arrangement. 7 would be fine, but I particularly like having 2 rings on the butt section as I fish with bobbins a lot.

Really liked this idea, not seen it before, although not that clued up on custom specialist rods. On the sight tip the orange is whipped on instead of painted. Simple but very clever I thought........

I think so on rods of 1.25-2lb it’s big enough. They tend to step up to 25’s from 2.25 and more

Looks good. White and orange is very visual
Black and white stripes is very good too especially when your using your peripheral vision.

Some ideas for you to look at that I have on my rods. The white and orange I did myself. Works very nicely on most backgrounds

They are shrunk on with clear heat shrink then sealed either end with a whipping.
Not difficult to do if your able to do basic building like whippings etc. as your having rods built it makes sense to get the guy with the blanks to do it. Some builders won’t mind.
