They are an acquired taste Chris. Not for everyone I can tell you that. What are the Torrix like for barbel Rich? They wouldn't be my preferred carp rod of choice (prefer more parabolic eg. Acurix) but have been looking at a poss 'decent' set of barbel rods for next season . . .need to 'bend' but have a backbone for 4-5oz+ feeders as well as decent fish playing ability. Don't want 2.75 beasts . . .want an allrounder (can't be arsed to carry small water and floods) so 2lb tc is usually the best of both for me . . .Hi-S are are silly money - are Torrix the way forward?
I fell in love with them straight away because I christened them with powerful doubles and that’s what they really need to really benefit from them. They are not a complete through action rod but they are not a tip action rod either. More a 2/3rds tip and a very powerful last 500mm above the cork. It does bend right through to the cork but your stopping a powerful fish if you get it to so.
I think if I was fishing a river catching a lot more but smaller fish I probably wouldn’t enjoy them anywhere near as much. I’d probably want something like a chimera or a GTI where the blank power is more throughout. The torrix is really steely in the back. You need a big angry fish and the whole blank just comes alive. Best big fish barbel rod I’ve ever used by a mile.
That said, I don’t like the 12 footers much. I know a lot of people do but they are a totally different feeling rod. I find the extra foot makes em feel less balanced but that’s my own conclusion of them.
I have a pair of 11 foot 1.75 torrix’s and I’ve used the 11 foot 2lb torrix as well. It is also amazing in its own right and would definitely put 4oz out no problem.
I have a pair of 2.25 seekers for my heavy stuff and 2.75 basias if things get really silly.
