Couriers

I
I’ve used FedEx recently, you need to register using a company name which will make life more difficult for a lot of people, but it cost me a lot less than anywhere else.

A local depot is very close which helps as well
will have a look at them. We have a local base.

You tell the buyer, depending on how much you put in the tank, which could be negotiable, an estimated mileage. 🤷‍♂️

Or

Instead of added postage costs, the buyer could also make an offer for the fuel he/she was willing to pay you.
I plan to offer free meet up say 60 miles. Not east though as I don't want to get wet! Ha. North will take me well into Cambridgeshire, west to bucks, and south into kent/ Sussex. Everything in life though needs to be negotiable.

Just a thought, ( and example ), but would you be willing to pay say £10 - £15 for guaranteed delivery ? If so, and the buyer agrees, you put that £10 - £15 in your tank, and drive as far as it gets you, the buyer, travels the rest of the distance to meet you. The buyer gets to check the rod out in person. No risk of damage from a courier, it could work in some scenarios.

P.S. no need to worry about insurance. :(👍
But then there's the other £10-£15 to get back home Derek, by which time you're getting to near courier charges.

I've been looking at others, Evri is by far the cheapest for rods over 150cm.

Going by there size restrictions in the pic. If you say you have a tube that's 10cm double it and multiply by 2 gives you 40cm, that means your tube can be upto 205cm!

Total price is £12.14 for 2 to 4 day delivery and fully insured! Collected from home.
Only two down sides are you must have a printer, they don't bring labels like parcelforce do and it's Evri 😒

I’m afraid the 2nd hand rod market is in trouble, especially for top end tackle.
The seller obviously does not want to lose too much money, the buyer no matter how keen for the rod wants it at a reasonable price. Unfortunately the cost of postage or fuel if collecting is an added expense that could cost a sale unless a price is negotiated. The only alternative is to sit it out and wait for a nearby buyer or someone that your rod is a must have item.
Rods that are still in production can be more difficult to sell as unless the price is advantageous, the buyer will usually buy new and have the peace of mind that there is some limited cover should it break soon after purchase.
