Combi rig knot.

Which knot do you guys use to connect the fluro to the braid on a combi rig or would I be better off using a micro swivel and my existing knots that I have confidence with to connect the two ?

I actually use a quick change swivel on my combi’s. Means I can store a few of the braided bit and if I want to make a change to hook size or simply because of damage I can in seconds. Brilliant for my smash and dash style, usually in the dark.

Improved Albright and a rizzuto finish.

A tiny drop of superglue if you aren’t sure.

A small swivel or a tippet ring (fly fishing) would also work.

Thanks gents, about to set off in the morning for my last week on the H Avon and am looking to incorporate it into my roving set up. Hope to be able to report a barb or two. As usual the anticipation of a full week on the river means I will probably struggle to sleep tonight ! Good luck to all for the final push on the rivers.

I tie a load of hook sections up at home and finish with a micro swivel, then can tailor the length and material of the main section whilst on the bank. Plus, if the main section gets damaged on rocks or snags you can just cut it off at the swivel and quickly change it.

Loop to loop works well too, though I prefer the neatness and little extra weight of a swivel.

Albright all day long

. . .however if you are lazy like me just tie up a load of pre-tied mini braided hooklinks (8lb gravel braid best) with the braid doubled up and either push the loop through a swivel / small ring (palomar/uni knot to fluro) and the hook through the loop (loop & boom rig)

Or better still tie the fluro to an ESP ronnie clip, attach your mini looped braided section and then sleeve it with the small tungsten bead included in the kit . . .makes knot tying on the bank a thing of the past - you can change your braided end presentation in seconds / as you see fit and re-use the hooklinks (no snipping with scissors / annoying braided loops to unpick etc)

Tied some up Saturday night and certainly working for the chub ( had six so far up to about 6lb ) but no barbs as yet. Still got six days to go so fingers crossed ! Using the swivel method as feel more confident than with the Albright.

Arguably the albright (when tied correctly) is the safest as its a single knot with no other faffy bits . . .

However akin to modern match anglers I've been using quick change hooklinks in a variety of formats and across all coarse disciplines - whether its a straight short 20lb fluro stiff rig for carp (loop to quick change swivel with long tapered sleeve) or barbel combi rig (12lb fluro to ESP ronnie clip with tungsten bead sleeve over doubled 8lb braid with a loop) or even trotting with a float (10lb braid loop to loop with 5lb fluro tied to a Matrix size 20 hooklink swivel with rubber sleeve to 3lb mono hooklink with a loop) - have never lost a fish due to component breakage /failure and the speed of being able to change presentations (to a selection of pre-tied presentations either on rig boards / float winders etc) on short sessions is invaluable!

I use 12-15lb braid tied with a swivel to 0.32mm mono or 0.285mm (15.4lb) fluoro. Only started using the fluoro in the autumn and it seems pretty good, but jury still out. I honestly don't think there is much advantage from going any lighter.

I favour the swivel over the Albright, and think the swivel helps turn the hook.

I'm still not convinced in my own mind that fluoro offers any real world advantage over mono as a hook link material - not as far as barbel are concerned.

Cheers Joe,was thinking along those lines

I've used the back to back grinner knot for combi links and it's neat and super strong!
I also use a double grinner. 4 turns on the fluorocarbon side and 5 on the braid. As long as you moisten it - never fails*

*disclaimer.... I dont catch many fish, they're there may be others on here who have had it fail on leviathans
