Cold Cold Hands

Looking for some recommendations here - I`ve got big hands & need a size 10 really. Thought a thinner pair of maybe fingerless mitts inside a mitten type outer would do - whip off the outer when needed. Had a look in the local farm supply / outdoor place & nearly had a heart attack when I saw a pair of goretex type was 50 quid.
I`ve seen some army `arctic` types but some look very clumsy - possibly Ok for changing a lorry wheel but not for holding a rod even for a while.
What`s the answer?
Thanks if you`ve got it sorted & can advise, Julian

Nash zero tolerance fingerless neoprene

Like you I'm a 10/11 in a glove size , but can happily get away with a medium in these as I like them to he a close fit

?

does not make any difference that you have six fingers eh stu?,and as for wearing gloves get a good dollop of vaselline and rub well into hands especially the backs they will stay warm for ages.

Reading Marks post, I think he may have slipped up there. Hmmmm....perhaps I should re-word that..................................:D

Cheers, Dave.

Reminds me of my poor granddad. He had terrible problems with his back. It got so bad we even ended up rubbing lard and Vaseline into it. But he just went down hill fast after that.

As an ex RN diver i have worn my fair share of neoprene gloves in the harshest of cold conditions. Neoprene is only suited for underwater use imo, on the surface it doesnt let your skin breath, it constricts and this will invariably make your pinkies cold. Sealskinz isnt much better either. However if your working hard and using lots of energy its great ie cycling, running diving etc. If your the angler who sits it out on the river bank all day in the same position get some handwear that allows your hands to breath and does not constrict.
I dont really have an answer what to wear maybe some bog standard Thinsulate gloves as I, at the moment dont use any and just use my thermal pockets in my jacket, but my opinion is dont go down the neoprene route if your the static angler.

I wear a pair of fingerless cycling gloves, I also use the vas, I also put my hands in my pockets while I'm wearing the gloves.
If I'm still cold after that I go home.

You all need to take a look at the handwarmer thread. £10 for a LARGE jack pike handwarmer. one fill will last " upto " 24 hours, no more cold hands, simples. :)

I have a pair of yellowish leather gloves that have a lining that I got from a garden center. I cut the tip off each thunb and fore finger so I could bait up without taking them off. They do quite a good job of keeping my hands warm.
