Cheap shelters from TFG

Just for anyone who's interested in a shelter not sure what they are like?
Here

Thanks for flagging this up Clive.
Looks a good deal!!
Rich.

i avoid tfg stuff like wells disease, i had a shifty around one of them force 8 bivvys,
no thanks, poor quality.

Don't want to turn this into a slag off Matt thread, but I had the full bivvy version of this and hated it. I too gave mine away after giving myself a hernia trying to erect the flaming thing and breaking it. If this sort of thing is what you want, then the Korum one is excellent, and now there are others similar in price and concept which will keep you very snug during the darker months. Light = flimsy, heavy = good I'm afraid. There is no compromise.

I have Tfg gear such as their clothing and i find it very good. If i didnt have my Jrc stealth and i was after a shelter,i would probably go for one of the Daiwa 60' brollies. They are quite good and reasonably priced.

avoid these at all costs !!!!! you have been warned......i had to give refuge to a carper whose own tfg force 8 bivvy blew away in a storm one night and it wasnt really too bad of a storm either ......garbage !
but i agree the clothing is nice .:)

I have one of these (full bivvy version) and only last night was discussing it's replacement! The first day I had it I read "20 secs to assemble". 45 minutes later I was still struggling, the instructions were rubbish. OK, once you get the hang of it it's quick enough but flimsiness is a problem. A gust of wind caught it shortly after I bought it and snapped one of the knuckle joints which means that arm cannot extend. I guess you get what you pay for.

I'm sure they burn well, though a bit belated for Nov 5.:D

As a few on here have said, TFG clothing is supposed to on par with other tackle companies (acceptable, though not excellent), there fishing hardware though..... Absolute cr@p!!

A mate of mine had a TFG medium sized baitrunner reel and the clutch burnt out whilst using 10lb line.

I used to use my Korum mk1 day shelter all the time, but for the odd time i do fish overnight and thats only 2 to 3 times a season, i needed something a little bit better, and at that all important good price.
I settled on the Chub Snooper bivvy, http://www.climaxtackle.com/chub/snooper_bivvy.htm
Its very lite and is easily packed up. Best of all is that you can unzip the front off and the ground sheet is also detachable. With this you can use it as a day shelter and then if you need one of the other 2 items, you just affix them as required.
Its not everyones cup of tea, but for me fishing on the Trent at night i can get all my kit inside, including my carp porter and enough room for the odd Terrier or 2.

Very happy with my older Chub Snooper day shelter and will happily do the odd good weather overnighter in it. In hindsight, I wish I'd paid a bit more for the version with the detachable front.
If I need more, when the weather looks rubbish, I'll break out the full blown Nash bivvy and overwrap.

I'm also on the lookout for a brolly system - one I can use as a standard brolly or put a wrap over it for the occasional overnight session. Has anyone got the Nash Profile X jobby? It does look the business and seems to get good reviews? I would be happy just putting a wrap over my Wavelock but can't seem to find one?

I only posted this due to seeing what looked like a cheap shelter lol.
Looks like its cheap and nasty.....

Wouldn't touch a Nash Bivvy/Brolly with a bargepole Neil, been there got the t.shirt  Aqua/Trakker Pioneer ultralite if you have ££££s to spend :) If not the JRC Stealth brolly system seems to be pretty good ,

Thanks Simon. Have had a look at them. You're right, they're pricey! Very nice though. Quite like the Trakker Specimen brolly bivvy. Would suit my needs I think (in other words - 2 night sessions in July and nothing colder!)

I spent ages looking at brolly systems Neil, and it was a choice between the JRC stealth and the Trakker Specimen. I went for the JRC in the end as unlike the trakker, you can completely zip off the front panel and use it as an open fronted brolly as well as a full bivvy system with the front on. Very good bit of kit. Hope this helps. Nick
