Cheap pins

Bob Watson

Senior Member & Supporter
My fishing is going back to basics this season, done my share of static, behind the rods bait and wait. I already have a Terry Daniels pin which is a nice reel, I'm looking to get one or two more but can't quite justify the money for top end reels. Are the cheap reels any good/usable?

I have high end centrepin from Chris Lythe, Garry, jw young etc. And very cheap one from Ali express, yes, the high end ones are very nice, and great build quality, but the cheap pin is good enough to use.

If you are in doubt, try find a okuma centrepin, very nice with affordable prices. 100-150 ish I think?

I agree Okuma Sheffield and Avesta are worth a shot. Great reels and, as with all pins, great fun to use at short range.

Ledgering or float fishing Bob?
If it’s for the former then literally anything with a decent check will suffice and it really doesn’t need to be brilliant to be spot on for the job.

For float fishing it obviously needs to be straight, true and free. You get a lot of choice in the 100-150 mark in terms of used Stanton’s, okuma’s, crouches, older young’s etc etc. good pins

Find out Roger Surguy on Facebook or on the Centrepin user page. He sells a few varieties of the Chinese made reels even one that are brightly coloured and resemble the Okuma's or Aerial's.
