Cheap Blockend Feeders

Just been into Used Tackle (Hucknall, Nott's) and bought some of their new feeders. They are 90g, very strong, flat like Drennan's and only cost £5 for 5 which is a bargin in my eyes!

Link for the shop below:

Doesn't look like the feeders are on the website but i'm sure you'd be able to order them mail order if you gave them a call.

Cheers

Just a personal point of view here - I used to live in Hucknall & out of curiosity I went in this shop. In short, it's the worst tackle shop I have been to by a long margin. Dragon Tackle is renowned in the trade for buying the cheapest of gear - you might see them at trade shows & you'll see the general clientèle they cater for.

Having been into the shop, I can honestly vouch for this as I really tried to buy something & did not even leave with neither hooks, weights or a maggot box.

I may be wrong but good luck

Couldn't agree more Jon but these do look different. Normally i wouldn't touch their own brand stuff with a barge pole but these look the business.

I normally only ever venture into the shop when buying pellet as they have some good offers on branded stuff and occasionally some decent tackle which is branded which can be liquidation stock or last years models.

I'll give them a fling come the new season and let you know how they fare.

Cheers

Fair comment Trevor - when I went in I looked high & low. Those costs are economical at a pound a piece & most probably worth a go.

I watched Rodger (store owner of the shops in Hucknall & Bulwell) at a trade show at the final hours of the day. He was doing massive business, giving it the market shouting and all that... His stall was crawling much bemusement to quality traders, but I know for a fact that most tackle would fall apart in a very small amount of time - the very worst of Chinese manufacture.

One thing about this type of shop is that it does nothing to sponsor fish welfare & if you wanted a pointer on water craft...

Cheers, Jon

Another thought - I would never buy bait, esp pellet, from an outlet that specialises in discontinued/out of date stock...

I would just about stretch to maggots as there is a very good farmer just round the corner off Common Lane.

Sounds a bit like Fishing Republic to me:D. Swimfeeder wise Trevor arm yourself with a good lead mold, 42mm black waste pipe, and a couple of tie wraps and 40lb amnesia. there not FFF's but You wont go far wrong...

Used to fish with a couple of Barbel Twin Tip rods bought from Roger along time back think they cost £20 each ,have to say never had a problem with them and still have them for spares.Upgraded to a couple of Korum Neoteric Twin Tips 6 x the price ,second outing one snapped in half .
You would probably be surprised how much tackle is now imported from places such as China, like with most things the quality varies.
I was surprised to read recently of people paying 40 or 50 quid for a landing net handle and then remark how to remedy the problems of it "sticking" ,God help me !
Not everyone has the budget to "waste" sorry spend that amount for a handle when a £5 one will do just as well.
When it comes to feeders ,maggot boxes ,landing mats ,slings, weights you can`t go wrong with some of the cheaper items IMO.The money saved can be put towards a quality reel and to a lesser degree rod.
The fact Rogers company is growing and growing is a testament to that.
Though as i thankfully consider myself part of the "general clientele" and not consumed by this so called "tackle tart" branding i may be biased.
Goodluck to all for the new season.

Reasonable point Alan & I concur that most tackle is made in China in a handful of factories. I used to work with JRC so I am fully aware of the benefits of eastern manufacture.

I am not taken in by being a tackle tart - its something that does the job & lasts. Fact is their general gear is pretty bad on both fronts. The maggot boxes for instance looked as if they'd melt in the sun, weights & leads very poorly finished & there were no hooks I recognised.

Okay you've bought a branded rod with a manufacturers warranty & its lasted, but then you've quoted Korum rods - Korum is okay but I still don't rate their longevity that high neither & certainly don't class their brand as quality gear. One thing is pretty clear to me is that you pay more money for better gear - how much is up to you.

Stuff like cheap feeders that get thrown in & occasionally lost is one thing....

This is in my opinion.

The bait is bought direct from Dynamite (not sure if i should mention that brand of bait anymore?!) it's only the tackle that is liquidation. Would never buy bait that is suspect, do believe that pellet should have a used by date on it.

Trevor

Totally agree that all bait should have a used by date - or at least date of manufacture. Sorry to tarnish your thread Trevor. As you can gather I just plain don't like this type of shop (contrasting with Gerries, Walkers of Trowell & Planet Carp), the type of individuals that run it & what little they stand for. It was one of those experiences that one wipes ones feet on the way out uttering never again (& evidently still have not got over this!!).

Cheers, Jon

Totally agree Jon. I normally go to Walkers but if i need pellet/ boilies then i go near to home if the price is right and the bait is fresh and decent.

The carp shop is better which is just up the road from the original shop as there is a lot of branded stuff in there but you still have to be selective shall we say!
