Chasing chub....

Doesnt matter what size they were. 27 barbel is a great accomplishment. I’ve never had that many in a day before……. Take a lap 😊

I can't remember the last time I had so many in a session. I think I had 18 and then 14 small ones in two sessions last year, again, they were all little ones.

If you blow the pics up Richard you might be able to check the cork out, even through the placcy you can get an idea of the filler in it. The screw down bit has no placcy on it so is easy to see. I can't see any at all on that little section. Thats a acolyte 14ft speci rod.

Ladypit farm on the river Trent is abit like that. Great sport but doubles come round once in a blue moon. That’s were I had my most amount in a session. It was mental.
Started fishing at 5am, ran out of bait by 1pm for 21 barbel and 39 chub.
Most of the barbel were 4-7lb
I got 1 double at 11,12 which was my float caught pb at the time.

Blimey.... 60 Fish,I would of lost count after 11.
Was that all the same swim Rich.
Cracking session mate.

I only had one chub of about 4lb and a few little tiddly ones today, but I also had a few decent roach, and dace too, but I had 27 of these ....

mostly around the size of those in the photos, but several of about 8 ounces!
It was enjoyable catching them on the float gear, ok only small, but went like stink for their size 💪.
A Photo of the 8oz would of been nice.

To be honest Dave, I only took those three pictures because I had to visit the bank for several reasons other than taking a picture....call of nature, tying on a fresh hook, and re filling my bait pouches 😉. Because of the very alkward and long wade to get to my spot I had no intentions of going bankside to take a picture of a huge gudgeon lol.

Yeah. If you know ladypit well it’s the very last swim before you get to the nps no1 swim which is quite famous for big match weights.
Well if no one is in that you can run your float right down the tins where the faster deeper water is directly opposite the nps peg. If you take plenty of bait on the right day you can pick em out one after another.
It’s not hard to catch down there the difficult part is driving the float so that it follows the S bend and heads right over tight to the tins on the island.
Anyone that’s fished it will know exactly where I’m on about

I fish another section of the Trent much further up.
It’s a lot more difficult with my best result so far being 6 barbel on the float for a full 6 hour day
You get afew chub in amongst that as well but there’s a fraction of the numbers in it compared to areas like ladypit and east stoke etc.
despite the fishing being harder I much prefer it. Practically have the place to myself and I can trot for miles in the best scenery

Last time I went I had 1 barbel and a handful of modest chub. No great report but a superb place to fish and no circus.

O well
What a lively session.
There's something special hooking a tiny barbel
Especially down South

Today I fished the same spot as where I had all those little ones from last week, I must have only actually fished for just over an hour but that hour felt like a loooong hour, mostly due to a injured shoulder but also due to me only manageing to catch a couple of small chub, a dace and two small barbel. The shoulder pain got to much so I abandoned the session and fired off home for a brew and some comfort food.
Heres one of the little barbel pictured with one of my favourite reels 😎....
