Changing wind direction on a centrepin

Simon Kitcher

Senior Member
Hello,
does anyone out there know if the following centrepin reels can be converted to left-hand wind with the line still coming of the bottom of the spool?

Youngs Trudex
Youngs Rapidex
Grice & Young Avon Royal Supreme
Allcocks Match Aerial

All the reels have a ratchet, and that is what needs to be altered - if indeed it is possible. Any advice gratefully received,

Simon.

I don't know about the reels you've listed but my Speedias, my Browning Revolver and my Young's Purist all 'click' no matter which way you wind so can be used left or right handed, top or bottom.

I don't see why your reels should be any different.

I have a youngs trudex, a rapidex and a match aerial to name but a few, and Im left handed and no convertion was needed for any of them apart from moving the removable line guard on the trudex to suit.

The Grice & Young Avon Royal Supreme can and you can even reverse the line guard so that if you do want to have the handles facing to the right (i.e. fish in "left handed" mode) the line will still pass through the line guard to the front of the reel (it has a second set of spare screw holes to fit the line guard into for exactly this purpose).

If you want to you can turn the rathet pawl round on nearly all centrepins. You shouldn't really need to though.

you will have too un-spool the line ,then wind it back on comming off the bottom .but thats it ,the audiable pitch of the click might change though
