Catch report software

Hi,

Does anyone have any idea of a UK software package for fishermen to keep catch reports?

I have seen a few US software packages that you can use which look ok (apart from being US centric) where you can upload pictures, log weather/river conditions, time of captures, species, weight, etc and will give you a nice detailed overview of the season with nice graphs to show you when your captures came and importantly in what conditions/times for each species!

Thanks Rob. It amazes me that fishing being the most popular sport in the UK some clever fisherman/software developer hasnt come up with a modern substitute to the pen and paper method of keeping a record of catches.

There are a few apps you can get for recording catches on the iPhone, some of which are pointless and useless

I use the fishing calendar app it's good as you can record your catches and plus it also shows moon phases which is handy if believe moon phases affect fishing

I know this doesn't really answer your question but I thought it may help

Biggun -Mike Berridge did have a brilliant Excell speadsheet hopefully he may read this and respond.

Being a bit of a computer geek, and similarly wondering why a uk centric program doesn't exist...

If there were to be an application, what would be the most important functionality?

If there seems to be enough interest I may be able to get one built.

Now then Adrian, behave or you'll end up in the naughty corner:rolleyes:

Chris G - Being able to report the following would be great: Species, picture, weight, river, location/stretch, swim, time, date, weather, river conditions, moon/sun phase, bait, bait location (near bank/far bank/middle/under bush), tactics (ledger, float, rolling meat, etc)..... All info must be enabled to make reports - such as most successful bait/swim/method/near or far bank, etc - also PB's in a 'hall of fame' type way...so many ideas!

Other sections could include - Nature noticed and noted or captured on film, general diary of fishing events that would ensure memories are also captured for the future. Basically a fishing journal, but with key search phrases so after a few years you could look up all of your journals which were for winter chub fish, or barbel fishing on the Test, after 20 years of input the mind boggles of what a great e-book you could pass down to your family of your fishing adventures!!!!

I am sure I have missed some! I have found a half hearted attemp on ebay, but this is only PC compatible. If you were to 'go to market' then make sure your software works on Mac OS's also.

If you have the skills, I'll sort out the distribution/sales! I have countless friends who fish and also work all day in front of a computer. Being able to take info from the river/lake and put it into a DB and then analyse your results during a lunchbreak/close season/cold & wet afternoon for many would be a great way to spend an spare hour!

Lets take Mr Crabtree into the 21st century :)

Ben,

Call me a hard hearted old cynic if you like but my guess is that if your family are not interested enough in your fishing to join you while you're alive they wont be interested in your exploits after your gone......By all means take Crabtree into the 21st century but don't fool yourself that you're doing it for anyone else's benefit but your own.....Unless of course you can make some real money with it.......Then they'll be interested.:D

Posted on behalf of someone who is non longer registered to post:

I used to post on the old forum but due to uni commitments ect haven't bothered to sign up to the new one.
Anyway, i saw a thread about someone asking for software related to keeping a record of fish. A program can be found on the following link

http://www.softpedia.com/get/Others/Home-Education/Red-Crab-Fishing-Log.shtml

you can add photos to the records and loads of other info...
i can't post it myself obviously, so if someone could post on my behalf to help that guy (and others) out that would be great

best wishs

Sam
