So long as the gear you`re using will do the job you ask of it, don`t worry that it`s not what the tackle tarts recommend. The advice so far about bait and location is spot on, a reasonable bait in the right spot will always outfish a great bait in the wrong spot...find your fish is the golden rule.

The best carp angler I ever fished with never had any matching items of tackle including bank sticks and buzzers. You would have thought the gypsies had moved in, but he`d catch carp whilst I was still making sure my rods were level. As in all things in life, it`s what you do rather than what you look like thats important.

go on a nice warm day, take one of ya barbel rods with 8 - 10lb line pair of sunnies a few controllers a couple of catapults a pot of line grease or vaseline and a big bucket full of cat or dog biscuits, yep forgot to say hooks Drennan Super specialists size 6 - 12 should do ya

Keep firing the biscuits out preferebly when you have found some carpies to play with, wait till you get them taking properly and competing for the floaters, cast well behind them, pull back slowly and then prepare to hang on

If your an angler you can catch fish and a carp is a fish so go on fill ya boots

The only months I haven't caught carp on the top are Jan and Feb
