Brrrrrr......

Nothing wrong with Eastenders:rolleyes:

As Mr Lush remarked it is a bit parky up North . Today I went '' trotting '' on a local stream , peak temp 26f . I say trotting but I was effectively fishing a fixed line as line was constantly freezing in the rings . I was forced to fish in narrow channels between the frozen water , still managed 10 chub and a couple of dace. One of the larger chub threw me a curved ball and darted beneath the ice , watching him twist and turn through the opaque window was bizarre . At 3.30 pm I had to pack up as the stream had completely frozen over ! I felt sorry for the kingfishers , this weather must decimate their numbers :(

I stayed in today with lovely wife watching Eastenders all day...!!!

Hello Rob, i notice your in the crystal maze ( Runcorn ), i would rather walk the length of the Bridgy canal b******o than have to sit in watching that cr@p. On a lighter note, where do ya do your fishin, locally ? :)

Got a text this morning to say the Ribble had frozen over, so went to the Mersey estuary instead! No point wasting a day off! Bloody cold like! Could only use the black lug and mack fillet i had taken as the squid refused to defrost! Really enjoyed the fishing - bite a chuck - but watching the storm clouds off in the distance over Ireland was the highlight.

Not a flake over on the west side of the north at the moment - due next week according to the forecast! :D

Hi Andy, what was ya catching ? If i,d of known you were there, i,d of brought you a flask of home made soup and a hot bacon sarnie. Can you believe the Mersey was voted in the top 5 worst rivers in the country. The last 10 years or so has seen a massive clean up of the river. I often stop to chat to a few lads who fish the river by the customs and excise building close to liverpool city centre. They tell me the fishing hasn,t been this good for as long as they can remember. Plenty of good size cod to be had, as well as lots of flatties. They also say that a very good sign of a clean river is the appearance of octopus, which have also shown their presence.

Any of the lads who fish The Mersey round the Stockport area noticed any difference the last few years ? Be interested to hear your views.

It's been rubbish for the last few years - the cod just haven't turned up in any numbers. Sounds like they're in this year though.
Might even dust off the multiplier myself:)

Cheers

Mike

Got me interested now, got some beachcasters up in the loft somewhere. Been plenty of anglers down at Bromborough and Eastham this last week or two.

Take a look at the photo's on Dave Burr's blog spot which he took of the Wye at Monnington. Still when it melts and flushes through, and the mild weather arrives (which it will) they should get the nose bag on, gives me something to look forward to!

Hi Guys,
i don't know whether i should say this, just in case i put the mockers on things, but we have not seen any snow at Throop, are we lucky or what! will we escape the dreaded white stuff ? only time will tell, in the mean time, i will do the same as all you guys that have been trapped indoors, stay in the warm and wait for the heatwave...............
good luck.
Brian.

Crikey, there's going to be some flooding if the temperature rises quickly, especially in Scotland and the north east.

We should count ourselves lucky. Take a look at the video on this BBC page

Hi Mike,
i have just looked at your link, i am not sure whether to get a fur coat for fishing, or throw cups of hot coffee into the air to test the temperature, seriously though, it just goes to show how much the body can take in extreme low temperatures, you now have made me feel totally ashamed, at moaning because the temperatures are -5c.
Brian.
