Brown/Gravel Coloured Braid??

John Cook

Senior Member
Morning All,

Trying to find a new brown or gravel coloured braid for use in my combi links, dont like the drennen super specialist braid as i find that it frays and snags at the moment i am using korda supernatural but i dont like the way that it ends up almost white in such a short time.....Are there any others out there??

Be Lucky.:)

Hows about Kryston Jackal in `Gravel Brown` John? Used it for carping and find it very reliable.

All hook lengths show up to some extent in certain conditions.
I fancy a luminous line so the fish can find my bait in the dark?!
Quite a lot of braids stand out to our eyes, try rubbing some bankside clay into it or maybe use waterproof marker pens to break up its colour.
However as flurocarbon is "invisible" why isn't everyone using that?
Shiny new mono and fluros do benefit from a rub with clay or fullers earth mixture. In clear water at least.

Martin is that a coated braid?

Yes it is John

I always use a marker pen regulary, but even this will eventually wash off and you have to keep colouring when necessary. Usually the end 6ft or less/more loses colour faster when using as a mainline. I think all braid, when in water, loses its colour and turns white/fades after a time, depending on use.

Looking for an uncoated braid to use with a fluoro combi link..

john, dont know if theyre still marketing it but korda was doing an excellent one in sandy, green or brown gravel was coated with a soft dull coating

Hi John
I hope that all is well with you matey:)

Ray, yes a brown waterproof marker pen would be good.....Ray where do you get yours from?

Anywhere that does them cheap. The 'Pentel' ones from a proper art shop are probably the best and they have a funny 'smell/whiff'... mmmm!.... I cut a slit in the tip for easier sliding up and down the line.
Even the non-waterproof (no smell) work ok, as they both eventually get washed off in around the same time.

Will go with the non waterproof ones then and just keep re applying...Thanks Ray.

Letraset pro markers or zig kurecolour seem the best, like Ray says they all wash out though. On hook length braid i use lots of patches of different colours and try to blend them in. Hobby craft shops sell Letraset markers in sets of green and brown etc.
Kryston Merlin is probably unfashionable but reliable.

I prefer the coated braids for combi links as its one less knot to worry about. the jelly wire Danny mentions looks good as it has a matt finish. some coateds are way too shiny.
I think Rays problem with braid is caused mostly by abrasion, trundling through all that streamer weed on the Avon. Dont suppose any marker pen will stand that.

David..I don't really class it as a problem as it easily rectified when fading, in fact i add a darker colour green to match the weed colour if needed, sometimes, when the line is brand new and before it has lost any colour. I only colour the end bit though.

Hi David,

I hope that all well with you????? Sorry mate you can keep those pens:eek:
