Big Boots for Big Boys

Right I am looking into getting some neoprene wellies for winter with a few requirement's.
Wide fitting calf's.
Wide across the foot.
Full length.(knee high)
Must last longer than 6 months.

Hi Clive, I have the neoprene lined Aigle wellie, plenty of room on the calf and really warm;) not cheap tho:eek:

I wouldn't pay too much mate, that's a lot of monies worth to leave in the mud up The Somme !!
Decent walking boots all day, every day as far as I'm concerned !!

Have a look at Muckboots matey, i know lots of people how have a pair and swear by them.

Good luck

Muckboots for me too Clive, I dont have calves I have cows and these stretch to fit, and there are many options.

dont buy seeland wellys they wont last a year also the muckboots tend to split with serious use

Andy, I have certainly had problems with my Tay's. Erosion of the heel on the inside meaning I have to wear thick socks to stop my heel blistering. The sole coming away from the upper in a few places which I managed to fix with super glue. A split at the join on the calf and just noticed a split across the toe cap. I have had the boots two years and walk 40mins a day with my dog and use for fishing in the winter once a week at the most.
I contacted Muckboots about the problem which start after 12 months and the response was not much use to be honest. Very comfy and warm but not sure if I'd buy another pair based upon my experience.

Had my Tay muckboots for nearly 2 years now and found no problems with them. Can be a little cold in the winter but an extra pair of socks usually sorts that out.

Paul, can you recommend a decent set of walking boots, waterproof and breathable etc? Will be using them on the bank and for walking the dog.

Clive I brought some of these

Regent Neoprene Wellies Size 13, Hunting/Fishing/Walking (RNW/13) | eBay

best boots Ive ever brought to be fair, and wore them for 2 seasons

They look suspiciously like the Wychwood boot

WYCHWOOD 3/4 NEOPRENE BOOTS - SUPERB WARMTH! | eBay

and if you stand in a puddle or the margins for a short while they leak (or at least mine and Pauls do)

Truthfully though, its only the left one that leaks , so I have a size 8 right boot for sale should anyone require one. :D

Interesting post, Stuart. I suppose the question is how much wear and tear is exceptable on a pair of wellies? Assuming you do 2 miles in your 40 mins, that's 1500 miles since you bought the boots. I'd expect some wear and tear on that kind of usage! But I don't know what the normal life exoectancy would be on a good pair of wellies — have you had previous wellies that have lasted longer?

I've had mine about 3 years but I only use them once or twice a week for fishing so they are in perfect condition and will probably last for years.

I just checked my ebay history and I paid £40 delivered. Joker now wants £56

Still, if you buy in welly season expect to pay top prices. I got mine in the spring (no, not as in spring a leak :D)

Its a good time to buy walking boots as the masses have now retired for the winter, and the shops have loads of stock that won't otherwise shift until Spring ;)

go barefoot .

ive had a pair of klobba ones for two seasons now,no trouble yet,and plenty of room on the calf, and comfy for the odd hike:eek:

I'll add that I didn't think mine leaked for the first year - then I went wading in them ...................

Good point Andy, tried walking in them this morning and I really need to get some new ones as my heels are blistered. Now to try and find a pair at a sensible price.
