BFW Trent fish in.

I arrived yesterday in pouring rain to be met by Chris Pearson who walked the banks giving insight into the stretch being fished. There was already a dozen or more anglers on the bank and I did not stand around as it was just too wet.

I chose a swim that gave reasonable access to the waters edge since the banks were like an ice skating ring and fishing from the top just did not seem sensible.

Starting at about 4:00pm I caught my first barbel within 30 mins and before dark had added a further three. It then seemed to go quiet, I waited another couple of hours before the next fish of 8lb made its appearence. Along with a bream and a chub that was my total before I packed up for the night just after 10pm.

By that time a number of barbel had been caught including three doubles of 10lb-2oz, 10lb-6oz and 10lb10oz, quite a start.

Unfortunately that rain had two effects, the river came up about a foot by morning, not bad in itself, it also started the weed rolling and it became very difficult to fish. I gave it an hour and decided there were better things to do, by now there was problably 30 anglers or so on the bank and most were going to make the best of it. I hope their effort gets a just reward.

Great session and shame about the weather, not much can be done about that. Well done to Chris for organising it, a length of river to revisit in better conditions.

Well done phil think you caught it just at the right time ,the river is still rising and if it wasn't for the weed it would have fished its head off well coloured now be about 4ft by morning .Bad luck too Brian who lost his rod its a leeda 1.5 if anyone manages too find it. Gary.

Nice one Phil on the session. Re the lost rod - I hooked a line recently on the Trent & a stubborn retrieve revealing a rod tip (reel, rig but no fish). In short, it was best part of £230's worth. All in good condition & even had a go with to catch an 8lb barb that evening! Reasonable gear but not quite my kind of tackle - so a present to a (rodless) good mate.

On the lost rod front the chap could check his home contents insurance and he may find he is covered for it!

Just got back after getting absolutely soaked to the skin packing up this morn.
Managed three Barbel to 9lb so not bad considering how much time I fished for, had a good afternoon in the pub on Saturday!!
Cheers to Chris for organising the weekend and also to the lads who cooked the food.
Shame about the weather but a very good weekend all the same.

Best Regards

A big thank you to Chris for sorting this all out, I had a great time even if i only managed a few hrs barbel fishing on Friday, i did manage 2 barbel the bigest being a 10lb 10oz short fat so and so on my first chuck + a couple of bream.

Another big thank you goes out to the cooks........nice rice and you didnt poison us :D:D

All in all it was a cracking weekend meeting some cracking people, all that was needed was a break in the weed so that we could stick it to the berties.......next year........please Chris!!!

Another very enjoyable BFW event.

Thanks Chris for sorting it all out and Mike for the curry.

For the record, I Zander fished and blanked for them, but did manage 3 Pike and a few Chub on the waggler.
The weed eventually did for me, so I packed up and headed home Saturday night.

Good company, thanks again.

Steve

My thanks to Chris for the weekend, Steve for the scoff and everyone else for the good craic.

I wish I'd turned up that bit earlier than I did. Probably didn't wet a line until about five on Friday but had three barbel up to midnight and the weed coming down in earnest. Spent most of Saturday knocking bits out from the inside using a stick float. Thoroughly enjoyed it too, it certainly beat hauling a few pounds of weed every ten minutes.:D
Packing up in the rain is probably one of my least favourite things and I've a garage that resembles a Chinese laundry with a preponderance of green. Just to wind me up, the sun came out about and hour after I got all my gear squared away.:D

Well done Chris for organising a good do even though the weather was poor. Didn't catch any barbel myself but did see 2 and even took a picture of one (jason) so I still know what they look like. Had a good laugh in the pub with Steve and Gav and the beer was very nice as was the food. All in all a good time was had and thanks again Chris for the effort.

Best Regards
Dave

Just starting to come round a bit feeling well enough to have a glass of wine that I had left over.
Thanks to all of you for making it so successful especially those who spent up to 8 hours on Friday getting there !
Thanks to Mike Joyce for the ruby and breakfast served under the most challenging conditions and for letting me sleep in his van after the weather made my accomodation untenable.
It's interesting how we have read about the horrendous weed conditions on the Upper Trent all season from Tigersman and others, little did we know that the change in weather would bring it all down on us and make the fishing so difficult that some of us gave up and resorted to socialising i.e. drinking for most of the event.
It's a shame because if it wasn't for the weed coming down I'm sure it would have fished it's head off.
It was great meeting you all and putting faces to names,Ill get the photos up tomorrow hopefully.
Thanks to Paul Salter for donating half a case of wine which we presented to Jason for the biggest barbel and Eelfisher for presenting the cheque to Geoff.

For all of you who had paid for 3 days and couldn't fish on Sunday I'd like to offer you a day and a night as my guests sometime in the New Year once it's warm enough.

Finally thanks to Andy Frances and BFW for making it possible, Geoff the Barnsley President was over the moon with the amount raised which on the windswept bankside I worked out to be £600 after the food expenses had been deducted but may increase once I've recalculated.

Best wishes,
Chris

Just a big thanks too Chris had a great Weekend on a great part off the Trent shame about the weed as the levels came up , lost a good fish friday night from a weed bed but managed 2 have 2 barbs in the early hours off last night the weed seemed to ease off as the levels got up had a bit off a lie in this morning only too find everyone had packed up when i got back too the car.

Pleased you all had a good time. Sometimes just having a chat can be as rewarding as the fishing. Shame about the weather.

I have just returned from this area, having spent a few days up there. Managed some nice fish and was lucky with the weather.

Thanks to Chris and co for your efforts.

Big thanks to Chris, Mike and his sous chefs for a great weekend and everyone else for the company. Good to meet faces old and new.

Real shame about weather and the weed, but at least a few fish were caught.

regards
Richard

Thanks to everyone who helped make it possible. What a lovely bit of water.

Horrendous traffic on the M1 meant I missed out Friday and turned up about 11.30pm having left at 4.00pm from heathrow! The weed was terrible but I had some protection from an overhanging tree and managed to fish fairly close in. Managed 3 barbel up to 7lb followed by 3 bream Sunday morning. Very enjoyable, I met some very nice people had a good crack and some nice fish.
I would love to go back and try again sometime. You guys up there are very lucky to have such a great river.

Cheers Chris, despite the weather and weed it was a huge success.

I am knackered though! Bring on the next one.

Yes - many thanks to Chris and helpers for a very enjoyable weekend.
Also had an awful journey up on Friday, arriving just before dark.
Found Bivvy Street - tripods, 3 rods bent right over, huge powerful river - mmm... this could be a bit different to the Mole !
Stuck it out 'til mid morning Sunday and finally caught my first Trent barbel (& bream).
Lovely curry, good pint of 'Dark', friendly bunch of anglers, wonderful stretch of river and £600 raised for charity - good stuff.

Thanks Chris for putting the weekend together and mike for the ruby. It was good to meet a few new faces and catch up with a few I had meet before.
As everyone has said it was hard work with the weed coming down but I was lucky enough to find a few fish, including a 10.2 lb and a 10.6 lb so left Sunday a wet but happy man:)

Been told today that the reason there is just so much weed coming down stream is that someone (EA?) has been weed cutting up at Holme Pierpont before the weekend.
