Ha ha, better than one of the blokes selling the Big Issue in Oxford all he ever says is two free staples with every copy!

Fair enough Tony, out of interest are they still alive?
They lived on OK but the catch rate WAS ZILCH.....still their last days were spent pampered

Here is my review of the SBS Serious Barbel Baits Stix (Undercover).

First, thank you Steve Williams for sending me a sample of the bait, albeit half the quantity that you said you'd supply me with, especially ironic after branding me "greedy" because I asked for a kilo, eh tight wad!?

It was always going to be a tight call trying too offer the bait a fair trial with only 250 grams to play with. That is why I asked for a kilo.

I trialled the SBS Stix against these: http://www.steamies.co.uk/#/new-stc-steamies/4539348924

On opening the packet, I was pleased that they were not over powering, just a subtle whiff of garlic and a fishy/meaty background aroma. Ideal IMO.

The trial was carried out over a 90 hour session on the Lower Severn, sadly though due to the shortage of SBS Stix's, I couldn't offer the same level of freebies, but it is designed as a 'hook bait' so it should of been able to standout superior from any loose offerings of inferior baits.
I fished one rod on the nearside drop-off. Baiting daily with about a gallon of hemp, roughly 2kg of mixed pellets and about 1/4kg of boilies. Plus every cast would see me putting bait in via PVA, consisting of a handful of pellets and small helping of the hookbait.
I also wrapped my boilie and pellet hookbaits in a thin layer of paste, to increase its drawing power, but due to the SBS Stixs being so alluring I deemed it not to be needed.
The hook bait was alternated between boilies, Stixs and Elips pellets.

My second rod was fished down the middle and was baited daily with 1/4kg of boilies and with every cast a handful of the hook bait were added via PVA. The hook bait on this line was either Stixs or boilies, continually alternating them.

In the words of Des Taylor: "I expect it to catch, in fact I know it will!"

Well yes it did catch but sadly only 1 barbel, compared with 4 using Elips pellets and ** using 16mm boilies. I will also add, the Elips pellet were used least, by a long way but still out caught the SBS Stixs.

Chub though absolutely loved them, I took five all between 4.5lb and 5.5lb, so some potential there.....

In conclusion:
They do catch, but no better than any other mainstream bait and at £16 a kilo, they need to be something special, which sadly I never found them to be.
