Hi I am after a new set of scales have avons at present but wouldlike a more compact and easier to see at night set have been looking at Reuben heatons 9000 digi ones any one have these and rate them or a better alternative willing to spend up to 50-60 thanks justin

Am currently using a 25 year old set of weigh masters and while I know they are accurate am considering a digital set been looking at the 9000 or 7000 heatons plus the korum ones

I bought the sportscale 9000 end of last year, have used them mostly for carp fishing and think they are great. Easy to zero on the sling, etc... backlight at night.

iv been using the avons but fancy a set of digis for a second pair was looking at fox digitals

Ian do those reubens have a hold button?

All personal preference I think but I believe it was a mistake me purchasing Reuben digis pain in the arse zeroing, replacing batteries etc don't get me wrong there accurate as mate had weights and measures bloke at work check em and they were spot on but wish I'd go e for standard Reuben's and as for the illuminated reading well I don't know about you but I don't fish at night without a headtorch! Just my tuppence worth and an honest opinion

You must be talking about different scales, I just press and release the tare button and they are zeroed, nothing at all difficult there

John, can't remember if they have a hold button but they automatically hold after a couple of seconds anyway

I had a set of Chub scales a couple of seasons ago (digital), never really got on with them to be honest and sold them on.

I have heard horror stories re the Fox ones, do the have an on/off switch on them yet and are they still draining the batteries?

I have had Avons in the past and found them very good when carp/pike fishing but when i started barbel fishing i changed over to a lighter more accurate (!!!) set of Weighmasters, i believe these are still made by Ruben Heaton's and are very accurate and easy to read/use.

The problem with any sort of weighing instrument is they need calibrating/checking every now and a again, i discovered to my cost a couple of seasons ago that my pair of scales where weighing a pound and a half light when over eleven pounds!!!!

I still use a pair of Weighmasters and i check them against the three pairs of scales a friend has to check the accuracy, so far they are within two ounces so i am happy with them.
