Best lightweight digital scales?

Simon Haggis

Senior Member & Supporter
hi there

So in catching a nice double figure fish the other night I trod on my Ruben Heaton flyweight scales.

If I was forced to estimate the size having broken my scales I would conservatively say it was 21.03oz.

Moving on, I'm therefore needing some new scales as I can't be arsed lugging around my Avons.

I'd like them to be digital, totally reliable, light and weighing up to an optimistic 25kg as I do fish abroad (for dace, no hang on, I mean carp don't I..)

Any recommendations appreciated

cheers, Simon

Another vote for the RH 9000 Series Simon, bought mine 'cos they have a backlight facility and have not been disapointed with any aspect of them

Do the Reubens decimalise the Oz's when in imperial mode? I have a set of digital scales that does this and its annoying having to work out 58% (or whatever) of a pound.

Ash,
They read in good old fashioned pounds and ounces [or Kg's & G] if you choose that option...a 7lb 15oz Barbel I had this morning read exactly that on the scale...No conversions needed..

+1 for the RH 9000 Sporscale.

Although I still tend to drag the Avons around in my Barbel Bag.

Do the 9000's have a hold button? Cant stand that jumping around where the scales wont settle on a weight...

Going to get some Fox Digitals as soon as I have the $$$.

Having seem them in action this year I immediately decided it was time to retire the Avons.

Had two sets of Fox digitals, first ones changed as they were wildly inaccurate.Replacements were also way out.I'd go for the Reubens if it has to be digital.

Hold buttons don't necessarily give you an accurate weight John...all they are doing is locking on to the position the scales were at on the instant you pushed the button. That may or may not be the actual true weight, just where it was at that instant of its swing. For instance, if you purposely bounced the scales up and down so the weight was swinging wildly, then pushed the lock button, it would record the setting at that second, but it could be pounds out.

Best thing to do is watch the swing and get the highest and lowest displayed weight, then work out the average. Not too satisfying, but all you can do with scales that never do seem to settle.

Cheers, Dave.

I'd think twice mate both me and my dad have binned ours as they were inaccurate. I now have a set of the korum digi and find them to be spot on and not to exapensive only £30

Not neccessary John, the RH 9000 scales settle and lock on automatically after a few seconds..:)

Thanks for the advice Steven.

I took a look online and they seem like Marmite, people either love them or loathe them.

Anyhow, maybe I'll stick with the Avons and save some $$$ :)
