Beauchamp Court

Is it true that The Barbel Society are giving up fishing Beauchamp Court on the Lower Severn next season. The question has been asked on The Barbel Society web site but nobody seems to want to give an answer.

Regards Ray Thorpe

Ray, it is in the Secretaries notes form the last Committee Meeting.............. it sounds like it is financially un-viable.

Shame, although i never fished it much, it is miles away from me, i have had some good fish from there when i have. Always met a nice bunch of blokes down there, it was mega clean very well maintained. I am sure it will be sorely missed.

Hi Tom, Thanks for your reply, I have only fished it a few times myself, seems a shame The Barbel Society are giving it up as there are some big fish there.

Regards Ray Thorpe.

Beauchamp Court; River severn

Ray & All,

The decision to release the fishery is based on purely economic grounds. When insufficient members take up insufficient fishery permits, to be able to satisfactorily 'service' the lease payments, then unfortunately the Society cannot burden the whole membership with this cost.

It is sad that we have had to release the fishery but the Lower Severn seems to have lost it's appeal to large numbers of anglers, whereas those who do persist can enjoy permits at a lower price than the BS can offer and the good fishing that goes with it.

Mike.

PS..Rob, I hope you are not including the hour you sat on my chest in that statement, Doc.lol

I'll mention it to the powers that be at paas......

It all comes down to price in the end, what do Kinver pay for the opposite bank I wonder?
I know what a syndicate I'm involved with pays for a similar stretch a bit lower down and 10 anglers paying what the b/s were charging more than covers it...Including insurance.
If the b/s could not make Beauchamp Ct pay with the history that place has then they must either have been paying over the odds for the rent or the membership has dropped to the point where the society is virtually bankrupt. Either way it's a shame.

Good evening Ade....nice to see you are still about.:D
Remember....when landowners have land agents anything other than big rent figures does not rock their boat.It is easier to say no deal....even if there are no takers.I have seen how they work first hand.
I expect PAAC could do something because,I expect that, alot of their waters are not rented...in the good old days people bought fishing rights not just rented them and the really successful clubs/societies did just that when they could.
It is a shame...but I'm afraid time moves on and if it was a drain on funds to the detriment of other projects then it's bite the bullet time.

Hi Rich, time will tell, the fact is there's miles and miles of water on the lower Severn which is there for the asking....Only this weekend we were offered best part of a mile for a peppercorn rent.
Cash is cash as far as landowners are concerned and most land agents, unless they have been misled to the real value of their holdings by a cash rich incumbent, are realistic enough to realise that any tenant is better than no tenant.
I'm willing to bet that B/c will not be vacant for long and that the new tenants will be paying allot less than the b/s were.

We'll see.
Don't confuse landowners with land agents. In pretty well all cases you never get to speak to the owner, the agent filters what they want to be heard. If you can find a farmer that isn't intreched with an agent then you could have a chance.B/C isn't like that as you know.Because of their waters on estates further north I imagine the clout the PAAC has will help with the B/C agents.Dropping in Westminster's name here and there will help no end.

Ok Rich......I give up.......You win.......I thought I'd give this 'new' forum a go but I can see nothing has changed......Still the same old glib, condescending answers from the same old posters.....I'll slide back under my stone and leave you to it.

???
Is anyone else as confused as me?
I did not want to upset anyone..it's a serious issue.
I think I'll just leave it alone.:(

Rich. Can you tell us what the other projects are.
Could it be the BS is aquiring waters for members,in areas other than
than the Midlands, though have heard you fancy a bit of the Wye.
Not good for attracting new membership from, the south though.

Howard

Hi Howard...I'm not the one to ask as I have no influence....
The Wye is only a suggestion....the underlying problem could well be bigger than any number of new waters could cure. The number of river anglers appears to have dropped and that will have consquences for all in the long term.

Anyway.....just PMed the Andys.........it looks like that I have said enough to require me to remove myself from here. We'll see.
Cheers
Rich.

Not at all Mike....simply saying what I think.
When you are sat not catching Barbel it gives you loads of time to consider things and mull over ideas. When you see on the last weekend on the middle Severn less than a handful of people fishing it does make you wonder whether the anglers are there anymore.
I walked about a mile on Sunday at Shrewsbury and saw just two anglers....in years gone by it would have been in the 20's.The same at Buildwas.Have they been lost in the floods too?:)
Then you consider the fact that Steve W has had to cancel the Kniver meeting due to the lack of ticket sales...with the line up that he had manged to attract. Can you believe that????You would have thought that with members and non members you would have been heading into the hundreds so something is amiss.

Rich.

Rich, do you think the current economic climate may also be having an impact on events such as the Kinver meeting along with club memberships? The number of people losing/lost their jobs has been terrible and will make those still working cautious about outgoings. As you say the Kinver meeting had a very good line up of speakers and I'm sure 18 months ago would have been a sell out.
I think also the harsh winter we have had has put many people off venturing out as the water has been that cold a lot of folks think "What is the point?" I've only been out half a dozen times since Oct and till last Thursday blanked everyone, my final reward was seven decent chub including a new Pb 5lb 12oz.
Just my six penneth worth and may be off the mark.

Stu
